Astral Green Jacket Vs Kokatat Hustle R

From L to R:
Astral Green Jacket, Palm Nevis, Kokatat Hustle R, and Yak Taurus PFD

When I’m at paddling events or on a river when I meet other paddlers it is pretty much guaranteed that someone will be wearing an Astral Green Jacket. After all it is a stand out design that works really well. However I have recently picked up a Kokatat Hustle R and wanted to take the opportunity of comparing the two in a little more detail.

The Astral Green Jacket and Kokatat Hustle R I have here are EU versions. For the European market the Green Jacket has a side entry feature where as the US version does not. The Kokatat Hustle R has some additional reflective SOLAS tape on the shoulder straps to meet newer ISO requirements in the EU.

Astral Brewer 2.0 – First Look

Here we have the new Astral Brewer 2.0 in Basalt Black. These are the next step in the evolution of the Astral Brewer. Although the two versions I have look very similar in many respects the 2.0 has taken on a more rounded and developed look. It definitely looks more like a “normal” shoe than the original Astral Brewer.

This shoe comes equipped with Astral’s proprietary super-sticky G Rubber outsole. My original pair came equipped with Five Ten’s stealth sole, however later iterations were also supplied with the super-sticky G Rubber.

Unsponsored Q&A Series – Aniol Serrasolses

Aniol Searrasolses is one of the worlds top whitewater kayakers. He has very quickly gained the admiration and respect of his peers. From my point of view Aniol is a kayakers kayaker and I am very pleased that Aniol has agreed to take part in the Unsponsored Q&A series.

How did you first get into kayaking? Who introduced you to the sport?

I got in to it because of my older brother Gerd. One day he saw a bunch of kayakers paddling in our local river and asked them to try it out. He was 14 maybe, we used to swim and play water polo back then but once we tried kayaking it was hard to keep motivated on the swimming and we would skip all the matches in order to go kayak. One day he invited me to try and I loved it.
