Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?

(Updated: 27/12/19)

One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. Now this doesn’t matter if your camera is a GoPro, DJI, Contour, Garmin, Sony , Nikon or whatever because without a good memory card you may struggle to capture the video footage you want.

Which Memory Card For The GoPro Hero5?

One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. Now this doesn’t matter if your camera is a GoPro, Contour, Garmin, Sony or whatever because without a good memory card you may struggle to capture the video footage you want.

As cameras have become more capable the need for faster cards with greater capacity has become more important.

Dagger Contour Outfitting – Seat

Over the course of the last few weeks I have welded up a Dagger Mamba (twice – two different splits). The last split was located in the centre of the kayak right underneath the seat.

To get a good weld both inside and out I removed the seat. Given the size of the unit I thought that it would be a fairly difficult exercise but it turned out to be very easy.

The back band was removed so that access was a little easier, then all bolts were removed. Four were located on the seat posts and the fifth on the central pillar/storage area. The seat was then lifted and twisted straight out.

I took a few images of the Dagger Contour outfitting along the way and thought a close up of the seat out of the boat may be of interest to some. So here they are!

Newark Fast and Furious

A great edit from Dale Mears. Dale uses the Contour ROAM3 and Joby action camera series to get his footage. Great to see the use of the more unusual shooting angles.

Joby Suction Cup, Locking And GorillaPod Arm

Joby have been releasing great accessories for action cameras (POV) for years now. The original GorillaPod being an outstanding product and now available in all sorts of sizes, colours, and materials to hold what ever you can throw at them or fit in with your fashion. Easy to carry, intuitive to use and outstanding performance. So what is Joby’s latest offering and how will it improve your game?

The Joby Suction Cup and Locking arm/GorillaPod arm is another suction cup to add to the current market, now I know there are quite a few knocking about, GoPro produce one, Contour produce one, you can also go on eBay and pick one up for reasonably cheap but like those annoying Sat Nav suction cups they fall off, or simply don’t have the suction to hold onto most surfaces.

POV Cameras Possible Danger?

I am a huge GoPro user, I have owned most types and always have a couple with my kayaking kit. Being able to bring tech into my paddling offers me the perfect combination of the kind of things I am into. I also spend a great deal of time watching home grown kayak movies on Vimeo and Youtube, many of which appear here on the site so I have a pretty good feel of what is possible and the impact that POV cameras have had on the sport.

Society is probably more media driven than it ever has been before and even the small section of society who kayak have been part of and are impacted upon by the rise of social media. Being able to view user driven and user published media where the end viewer has ultimately also become the media maker/publisher has many merits and has helped bring the sport to more people than it ever has done in the past. Must have GoPro Accessories

I’ve been looking at the range of GoPro accessories I currently have to assess whether or not I would buy them again. Here is a very quick run down of the “Keepers” and the “Binned”. There has been fair bit of trial and error over the last few years but I think that I have narrowed things down to kit that works and is actually worth getting.

Most accessories will work with the entire GoPro range.

On the face of it little has changed. The major difference is what is going on inside. Roam have improved the level of seal protection, so the Contour Roam 3 is Roam’s first camera that doesn’t require an additional housing.
