Bhutan – Paddlers Paradise. Tucked away in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan sits as a unique paddlers destination. The isolated, culturally unique, country offers pristine rivers to explore. Lets not forget the amazing culture and hospitality that
is above and beyond.

Bhutan - Paddlers Paradise

Within the Kingdom, a half days drive from the capital Thimpu, you will find Punakha.

Although the capital until 1955 Punaka is now the adventure centre. Located at an elevation of 1,200 metres above sea level its river valleys of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu frame the impressive Punakha Dzong.

The Mo and Pho, flowing fresh and blue, both offering ideal spaces for paddle sport enthusiasts. Otters in the eddy, rare birds and more distract as you paddle these awe-inspiring rapids. With a few blind bends and technical rapids the rivers keep you on your toes. Although they rarely cross the class 4 threshold. Rice fields, age old villages and iconography from Chimi Lhakhang never date.

A journey on these river highways is timeless. As they join at the Dzong an obvious journey end, perhaps its one of the worlds best take outs, then its back to embrace the people and culture of the valley.
