The Contour outfitting system within Dagger kayaks is in my opinion the best system out there. However it does come with a weight penalty. The new Nomad for example no longer comes with the seat tray fitted for exactly this reason.

Dagger Seat Tray

A number of paddlers have made the move and have removed the tray from their boats. I myself hassle repaired a team Dagger boat that already had the seat tray removed.

Disclaimer: if you have decided to go down this route you may wish to consider the implication to any warranty that is in place on the boat.

kdewit over on Mountainbuzz has done exactly that to his 2012 Dagger Mamba and has kindly sent over some images and detail on how it was done.

The seat tray is held in place with a single bolt. kdewit’s seat bolt was already missing as it had worked itself loose. But the bolt can be accessed by lifting up the leg lifter part of the seat and removed using a long allen key (supplied with outfitting kit).

Once the bolt is out, the tray is very loose and can be removed fully once the five seat adjustment screws are loosened and the seat in about the middle of the track and loose. No need to completely remove any seat adjustment bolts, so don’t go too far.

The foam under the seat spine helps prevent oil canning.

Overall around 1lb 4oz was saved.
