Earlier this year Garmin announced the release of the new range of Virb cameras for 2015 – The Virb X and top of the line Virb XE. The form factor is much smaller than the previous Virb editions and is more in keeping with the GoPro design.

Both cameras are now available to purchase.

Garmin Virb X And Virb XE

The following edit is filmed using the Virb XE.

Virb X:

Video: 1080p/30fps; 960p/30fps; 720p/60fps; 480p/120 with zoom levels
G-Metrix: Built-in Garmin GPS and sensors track your movements in real-time and display it all in powerful gauges, graphs and more
Photo: 12 megapixels; burst up to 10 frames per second; time lapse
Audio: Exposed microphone for extremely clear audio even underwater; wireless HD audio from Bluetooth®-enabled headsets or microphones

Virb XE:

Video: 1440p/30fps; 1080p/60fps with super slow-mo, image stabilization and different zoom levels.
G-Metrix: Built-in Garmin GPS and sensors track your movements in real-time and display it all in powerful gauges, graphs and more

With the still image sensor, both versions can capture sharp still photos and photo bursts with up to 12MP image quality. Additionally, VIRB XE has a Pro Mode with more advanced manual camera adjustments such as white balance control, sharpness control, color profile control, ISO limit and exposure bias.

Both are waterproof to 50 meters without a dive case and have hydrophobic glass.

The ability to automatically synchronise footage from several different cameras looks very interesting, as does the the 2hr battery time filming at 1080p.
