GoPro Wifi App

The long awaited App for the GoPro Wifi Bac is now avilable on iTunes. The App is free but requires you to have a GoPro Hero 2 and Wifi Bacpac kit or a Hero 3 (Wifi is built in). A firmware update is required before you attempt to connect the App.

With the GoPro App you can now control your GoPro camera remotely using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Features include: full control of all camera settings; live, remote viewfinder/preview of your iPhone/iPod or iPad for easy shot framing, and more.

In my case I have connected my iPhone to the camera so will refer to iPhone throughout this write up with the understanding that other iOS devices can be connected.

To connect the iPhone to the GoPro I switched on the GoPro/Bacpac and navigated to the Wifi settings on the camera menu and selected the Phone/Tablet option. On my iPhone I went to settings, switched on the Wifi and connected to the GoPro Wifi network. A password is requested. The default password is “goprohero”.

First impressions are really good. The App is well laid out and is very easy to navigate around.

GoPro Wifi App

Changing from Video to Photo to Time Lapse etc is super simple.

GoPro Wifi App

The “Locate Camera” is an interesting one. On activation the camera beeps and all of the lights flash. This could be useful given the right conditions.

GoPro Wifi App

All of the GoPros settings are accessible and can be edited. This feature is superb! The GoPro 2 cameras menu is much better than the first but the menu on the iPhone is leap years ahead.

GoPro Wifi App

The App allows you to view the video stream from the camera with a 1-2 second delay. This would be pretty good for framing shots.

What else? Must have GoPro kit.

          Password is goprohero

This is entered in your wifi settings on your phone.

goprohero has not worked for me and I have done the firmware update

    • admin

Def the password from standard following the firmware update.

Seems a number of issues with firmware updates means that the wifi password doesn’t work. Its really important that for the update that you use a fully formatted memory card and take 1 x image – then do the update.

For the gopro hero 2 connect to the wifi back to the computer and in the popup press configure – you can change the password there

Has anyone else had an issue connecting the camera to the app and it asking for a pin? I’m not sure where to locate this pin, it’s numerical but doesn’t specify how long…

Only ever been asked for an initial wifi password. Has this been since the new app update? It could be related to the fact the new remote includes bluetooth connectivity.

Hi, yes no issue at all. Have you updated the cameras firmware?

        • nica

How do you update the firmware?

          • Unsponsored

You can either use the SD card and download the firmware from the GoPro site, or you can use the GoPro PC/Mac software for earlier GoPro models.

    hi,

i have just updated my 3 silver and its asking for PIN, any news on this?

    • Unsponsored

That’s used for pairing wifi should be set when you carry out the update.

Just updated my 3 silver to and having issues locating PIN. Any update on this issue?

      • Adam

Hi, i understand that but where do I get the pin for the app? It shows a diagram of a GoPro with the front screen glowing but the camera is on usual camera screen.

        • Unsponsored

When you connect the app the pin code will be shown on the GoPro. This is entered into your phone for authentication. Very much like when connecting bluetooth enabled devices.

The 7 digit pin is under the battery (for Hero 3+). Wi-fi setup should not be this crazy. Although it’s connected via the app, found my new camera name and password (done manually via the site), it then asks for pin. I keep getting ‘Unable to pair camera’. This last step is a nightmare.
