My new Wi-Fi BacPacTM + Wi-Fi Remote arrived today. Probably one of the first in the UK to be out/about and on the web.

Here’s some info from the GoPro site:

The Wi-Fi Combo Kit enables remote control, live preview and playback on smartphones and tablets, live streaming to the web, and more. The Wi-Fi Combo Kit is compatible with HD HERO2 and Original HD HERO cameras.

To start with here are a few images of the BacPac during its unpack.

The Wi-Fi BacPacTM + Wi-Fi Remote comes with a number of accessories including:

USB lead for the BacPac
USB lead for charging the remote
Waterproof backdoor
Non-waterproof backdoor
Wrist strap for the remote
Keyring attachment for the remote
Instruction manual
An extension arm

The BacPac adds approximately 1cm to the depth of the unit and has its own power on/off button and small LCD screen. The remote is very similar in size to a car central locking key and has its own LCD screen and two buttons. The buttons function in exactly the same way as the buttons on the actual GoPro.

Each and every button press on the remote (as you would expect) is mirrored on the camera, including on/off.

Both the BacPac and the remote run from their own individual internal battery and do not draw power from the main camera battery.

A WiFi symbol can be seen in the bottom right-hand corner of the camera LCD screen. Before connecting the camera etc you must update the firmware on the camera, Wifi BacPac and remote. This is done through GoPros CineForm Studio Software. After everything is updated pairing the device to the remote is very easy.

The additional side button powers the Wi-Fi BacPac on/off.

The metal keyring tab on the remote can be removed, and must be removed when you connect the USB cable to charge the remote. In the shot below the LCD protective film is still in place.

The Wi-Fi BacPacTM + Wi-Fi Remote has a suggested retail price of over £100 but can be picked up for just under. I suspect that this accessory will be in very high demand.
