Using a GoPro can mean that your camera angles are pretty much the same – from the helmet or from your boat. Sometimes the best shots are those that rely on the camera being on the bank, on a bridge or on a paddle. But at the same time you don’t want to be hauling a great pile of kit that takes ages to set up. In my boat a carry a small GoPro roll bag that contains a few bits and bobs for my GoPro while I am on the river. This includes spare cards, battery and a gorilla pod. Small tripods are super useful but you need a way of attaching your GoPro camera to them.
Image above shows the Mount Star mount rigged up as part of a zip line wire system.
Not all after market GoPro mounts are equal. Since owning a GoPro HD I have purchased a number of different mounts from around the world with varying degrees of success. The camera can be clipped in and out quickly without having to mess around with the nut/bolt. GoPro make a tripod mount but its does require you to loosen and remove the quick release system, which can be pain.
In many cases the tolerances were out out whack which resulted in the GoPro QR clip clipping in but would not come out or not being able to fully clip it in at all. This is not an issue with the mount by Mount Star. The mount will work with any GoPro camera including the new Black, Sliver and White Hero 3 as well as the Hero 2.
The mount can be used on a tripod, strapped/zip tied to a tree/post/car grill and with a little thought can even be rigged up on a paddle. The mount will accept screws of various sizes, it will accept any standard tripod sized screw such as on most if not all camera tripods, and 1″ straps.
The mount has been CNC’d machined in a custom machine shop to the highest standard and each mount measured/tested to ensure it falls within specified tolerances. What makes the Mount Star mount much better than any other is the fact that is works. At £20 posted (within the UK) the Mount Star mount may not be the cheapest but it is made from aerospace aluminium, it’s anodised, it fits as it should and is built to last. Best of all it has been made by a skilled engineer right here in the UK.
I’ve been using one for almost a year now and it is as good as it was on the day I picked it up. It has worked flawlessly in a range of testing conditions. The key with this mount is versatility, they have multiple uses are well made and totally bomber. These mounts have been so well received the UK will get to see footage using the Mount Star mount and GoPros on the little screen.

Just wondering how strong the screw to fix it on a tripod is ? looks like it is plasic only ?
December 28, 2013 at 11:02 am
The screws on my tripods are metal 4/20 size. The GoPro standard fittings are plastic but very tough.
December 28, 2013 at 1:15 pm
Just realised I hadn’t thank you for my Mountstar mount. I have been using it for the last few months and it is permenantly fastened to my tripod ready for action. I had bought other ones off ebay and they were simply not up to the job. The tolerances on the mountstar mount are way better. My gopro clips in firmly and securely with no movemnet but is still easy to release. Thankyou. 🙂
