Having a good kit bag is pretty important to me. It keeps my wet and often dirty kit safe and secure and helps prevent kit (or the inside of my car) being damaged.

Ortlieb Rack Pack

A while back I bought an NRS Bills bag, which is an awesome bit of kit. Absolutley cavernous and very well put together. However if out for a quick paddle it is probably too big.

Up until the Bills bag arrived on the scene I had been using a Bombergear roll top bag, which was superb, used it for many years, but was a little too small! The Bombergear bag was one of two that I brought into the UK. It is super tough and is still going strong with its new owner.

After some time spent looking for an alternative I picked up an eighty nine litre Ortlieb Rackpack. The design is identical to the Bombergear model but is a little larger.

The bag has a large roll top closure that makes it easy to load and unload gear. It is also super easy to find smaller items within the bag. The opening has a roll top that once secured is water tight. A couple of additional straps help compress the bag and keep everything in place. The bag comes equipped with a couple of fixed carrying handles that covered with plastic tubing and are super comfy to use. There is also removable shoulder strap but there isn’t the ability to wear it as a rucksack which may put some off.

The bag is large enough to carry a full set of winter kit with ease. It is also very easy to rinse and clean out. Getting rid of excess water isn’t difficult.

I have now been using the Rackpack for over a year and really like it. So much so I picked up another for my biking kit. I have a drybag by Ortlieb that has been used for alsorts for the best part of 25 years and it is still performing as it should. So I have no doubt that the rackpack will provide years of quality service.

So far the only negative has been the fact that the larger size Ortlieb Rackpack is not available in the super bright lime colour scheme.” target=”_blank”>Rackpack for around eight months and really like it.
