First Run In The Antix 2.0

First Run In The Antix 2.0
First Run In The Antix 2.0

Towards the end of May the Antix 2.0 mold finally arrived, and right as we were able to get the first boats out of the mold to paddle, some rain hit and we were able to get a low water lap on the Caney Fork. Despite the lower water, the Antix 2.0 made the run just as fun as always, and can’t wait to get back on there with some juice!

Antix 2.0 Walkthrough

Antix 2.0 Walkthrough
Antix 2.0 Walkthrough

The original Antix was already my favorite boat of all time, but this boat blows it out of the water. It’s the perfect combo of all the playfulness I could ask for, but still gives me confidence that I am going to be able to run some much harder whitewater with this thing. More rocker, planing hull, faster, easier to paddle, this thing is insane. I am so fired up on how it turned out, and can’t wait to get it on all of my favorite sections!

El Rio Claro

El Rio Claro
El Rio Claro

Outside of Molina, Chile, lies one of the most incredible places to experience. The rio Claro is a river that you can only truly appreciate its glory, and many sections are only possible to access, by kayaking it. It is about as narrow, and committing as kayaking gets. It is one of my favorite runs in the world, and by far one of the most beautiful. The chrystal clear water, the towering overhanging walls of the gorge, and the endless drops. It is a place like one other, and I am always counting down the days till I can drop back in.

High Water Myrkdal

Dane Jackson take a run down a high water Myrkdal.

High Water Myrkdal
High Water Myrkdal

The boys didn’t waste any time to get me straight into the stouts for my first day ever in Norway. We put onto the Myrkdal-selva which is one of the sickest runs, but generally done lower. Once on the water the boys made it clear it was higher than they expected, but that didn’t stop us. They just gave me beta the whole way with no scouting. After the first big sequence I was definitely gripped, but I started to get more comfortable as the day went on. It was a a hell of a first day, plenty of stout holes, and nothing but good times.

Breaking Down A Rescue

Breaking Down A Rescue
Breaking Down A Rescue

Last Spring we were running the South Yuba in California, when things went a little sideways. Luckily it didn’t go worse because I was able to rope Evan out before he had to swim some gnarly rapids. In this video I decided to breakdown a few steps I took to allow me to be able to successfully get Evan out, and hopefully they will help you whenever you need to help someone out!

Return To Dreamwave

Scoping through the old drives I came across this short GoPro edit I made from our 2017 return to Dream Wave in Manitoba. Loaded jetskis, camping out beside the best wave in the world, it doesn’t get better.

The Rhondu Gorge Of The Indus

The Rhondu Gorge of the Indus
The Rhondu Gorge of the Indus

In November Dane met up with the California boys to experience a river like no other, the Rhondu gorge of the Indus. Flowing 86 miles from the valley of Skardu, it has become a river even the top kayakers of the world wonder if they feel up to the challenge. It’s got insane power flowing down steep rapids, creating huge features, making every rapid a stout after the next. It’s a river so big that the first question people get asked when they just completed the Indus, is “how many portages did you do”? Many of the worlds best kayakers often portage, usually between the 5-8 realm. This trip saw the Cali boys portage only 4 times, as well as see Dane get the lowest number of portages ever done, down to 1, by completing the first descent of the infamous Malupa rapid. It was an experience none of them will be forgetting anytime soon, and it’s just one of the places that it’s hard to believe we get to experience with our kayaks.

Minus Rapids

Minus Rapids
Minus Rapids

The water was coming up slightly every day during the trip, but the last few days it really started to make bigger jumps in the level. Since the water was higher and we had gotten our fill downstream we decided to head up for a lap of the minus rapids. Here is a quick GoPro mashup of the minus rapids and the last few days enjoying one of my favorite rivers of all time!

Find The Biggest Hole Then Aim For It

Find The Biggest Hole Then Aim For It
Find The Biggest Hole Then Aim For It

“You can only run it blind once” is pretty much what sums up getting to lead someone like Adrian down the Zambezi for their first time. Last year I got to lead Bren, and this year I got the pleasure of being able to lead Adrian. In the end as long as they are ok at kayaking the Zambezi is nothing but just JOY big water for a few hours every day. But for the trip to begin right, I had to beta Adrian for the run, which usually just summed up to telling him to aim for the biggest holes…

West Cherry Creek: California
West Cherry Creek: California

This summer Dane Jackson and I met up in California to run down the famous West Cherry Creek. This was fun time down the run and I was absolutely blown away with the gorgeous scenery and giant granite slides and rapids. It was truly incredible and I can’t wait to get back in there. Check out some of our little 2-day adventure in the California wilderness.

Kaweah

Kaweah
Kaweah

The Panther section of the Kaweah, located just upstream of the Hospital Rock section is one of the best day runs in Cali. It’s about a 3 mile hike up but then once you are on the water it’s a few hours of sick boulder gardens, and tons of boofs and slides. By far one of my favorite day runs out there, and I highly recommend getting it if you ever have the chance!
