Old School Boats For New School Boaters

Now I have sat on this article for some time as no matter what kayaks I list I know that there are a whole load more that would suit the bill. So here it goes, popping the the lid on this virtual can of kayak worms. Let us know your thoughts on the post’s comment section on the site.

Slicey kayaks are on the way back into vogue. After years of super short and relatively high volume playboats the “old school” makes a return.

Hurley – River Thames, UK

Now old school is relative, for some of you out there it may be a blast all the way back to 2010! However for this journey back in time we are going back to the 1990s and early 2000s.

So lets say you were in the market for an old school slicey kayak to rip it up with the new crop of slicey kayaks currently being developed. Or you are silly bored with the bobby high volume short length playboats of late and just want something different. What could you go for?

GoPro Hero5 Session – Review

Since the first launch of the GoPro camera a few years ago it is very rare to see a group of paddlers at your local whitewater run or play park and not have at least one paddler wearing one.

At Unsponsored HQ we have used the GoPro range since the first HD version hit UK shores. After a pause in updates GoPro have launched the new Hero5 range of cameras. The Hero5 Black edition (£349) takes on the similar cuboid form factor of previous versions but has dispensed with the housing. The Hero5 Session (£249) takes the Hero Session (now £179) cube form factor and packs a bigger punch.

One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. If you have just picked up one of these news cameras you might well be asking what is the best memory card for the GoPro Hero5 Session.

As cameras have become more capable the need for faster cards with greater capacity has become more important.

Which Memory Card For The GoPro Hero5?

One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. Now this doesn’t matter if your camera is a GoPro, Contour, Garmin, Sony or whatever because without a good memory card you may struggle to capture the video footage you want.

Demshitz – New Holtwood Kayak Park

Superb drone work from Demshitz and an awesome feature.

Screen Shot 2014-11-18 at 22.49.42

About three weeks ago myself and Jared Seiler were invited to test the flow and features at the Holtwood kayak Park. We surfed the features at a variety of flows from 700cfs to about 1600cfs. A happy flow here at Holtwood is between 800-1100cfs. The top feature is a very fast wave. You have to be ready top fly on this feature, setting up can be a little tricky. The next feature is a fast wave hole and the last one is a perfect little V wave. Great shoulders on both sides, perfect for a good front surf or even an air blunt. Enjoy! Continue reading
