Suunto Ambit Peak 3 – Review Updated

We love tech here at Unsponsored HQ and when we can combine that love with the great outdoors it gives us a warm glow inside. So getting hold of the new (at the time) Suunto Ambit Peak 3 was quite a day.

MY GPS of choice up until very recently was a Garmin Foretrex 401 (as favoured by many members of the armed forces). It did its job well but I didn’t use a great deal of its features apart from getting a GPS location fix when things got a bit sticky. Although it did what I needed it to do technology has moved on and it’s always great to have an excuse to upgrade some tech. The Ambit Peak 3 came recommend from a friend of mine who had used pretty much everything else that was on the market at the time. I have owned the Sunnto Ambit Peak 3 since December 2015 and have used it weekly since that time.

Casio Gulfmaster Ocean Concept G-Shock – Review

The Casio Gulfmaster Ocean Concept G-Shock (there’s a title) has been at Unsponsored HQ for the last few months. Since its arrival it has never left my wrist. The version seen here is the GWN1000B-1B which has a distinct blue bezel that appears much brighter in the Casio stock photos than it does in real life. The Gulfmaster is also available in a number of different colours although not all colours are available in all countries.

Things To Hang Off Your PFD

This post has been rattling round my head for the last few months as I have debated on whether to put it out. A conversation with a couple of fellow paddlers has prompted me to make the post.

Things To Hang Off Your PFD
Things To Hang Off Your PFD

First things first the risk of being snagged or caught up in a strainer or similar is something that all paddlers need to think about and although the risk is minimal the risk still exists. Any kit that you wear has the potential of being snagged and all steps should be made to keep loops of tape, laces etc tucked away and out of danger. However I sometimes find that it is necessary or advantageous to have some pieces of kit on the outside of my PFD rather than in a pocket.
