Its been talked about for at least a year now. I’ve heard it from many different people but all of them talked about how good it would be to get a river race arranged in the north east. The Upper Tees has always been the most popular choice for this due to it always having at least some water in unlike any other river in the area but also being a pretty good option if it were to have some water in.

2 Months back Rory Woods took up the challenge with the help of Lee Royle and got the ball rolling with what was to be a low key Tees race in which we could test the water and see how much interest there really was in the idea.

This Sunday arrived and saw 40 people turn up at the Tees for the race despite the low water. The race consisted of 3 events. A time trial which seeded you into heats for a boater X and then to finish off the day a mass start boater X.

The whole day ran without a hitch and It seems everyone loved it and it was great to see lots of the lesser known local faces and guys from the local unis turn up to give it a go.

Keep an eye out in the future for details of another race like this as I’m sure there will be one!
