Wavesport Recon Core White Outfitting – Modification

A couple of weeks back I modified the outfitting system of my Wavesport Recon. The bolts that hold the thigh grips in place do not have a great deal of purchase – with only a couple of turns of thread holding the bolt in place. The condition of the brass insert in my left hand thigh brace didn’t look too healthy either.

It also seems a bit strange that most of the bolts on the Recon require either an Allen key or security Allen key to adjust and that the thigh braces required a Phillips screw driver. So the minimum tools required would be the security Allen key and a screwdriver. By changing the bolt I could solve the issue with the amount of thread being used and reduce the number of tools to carry to just the security Allen key.

For less than £2 I sourced a set of stainless steel dome capped Allen bolts with the correct thread but a little longer. The image above shows Kev Stainsby’s Recon, coincidently Kev has carried out exactly the same modification.

The new Wavesport and Dagger outfitting systems use metric bolts throughout – which are much easier to get hold of.

Bolt thread size – M6
New bolt length – 20mm

Interesting you should say this as I have found exactly the same issue on the Habitat.

Any idea what the thread pitch of the original Philips head bolts are ? I’m trying to source replacements .
