Now the "First Impressions" review (objective as always)

1. THE LOOK
Anyone and everyone would have to say that, out of the box, this is a stunning looker. The lines are clean, non-offensive and very well thought out. The finish LOOKS great and has a pleasing feel. Minor blemishes found on very close inspection do not really detract from the lustre of normal gaze.

2. THE FIT
Obviously, for everyone this is different, but for me (with no extra shims on top of the 7/16" liner) the fit is really very VERY good (except it's ruined my perfectly modelled hair this morning ) The 2-point strapping system feels pretty good, but I'll have to see how it behaves when being tossed about in a stopper.

3. BUILD
This lid is almost perfection on build (on first inspection) and seems engineered to last. Hardly a missed weave or a misplaced blob of sealant or glue. GREAT. One thing I will note is that the clips (National Holding "Ergo-Lok"s) seem a little (ie not much, but enough) on the cheap side. I don't know if this is the case, but they don't reflect the great craftsmanship of the lid as a whole. They seem to slip all too easily along the webbing straps which, themselves, have slightly rough edges. These things I can live with or get around (rubber band to stop slippage for eg)! The trim around the edge needed a little fiddling so it was seated neatly, but that was a 2 second job. I will add, however, that despite what I have said about the fittings, they feel more sturdy than my now redundant Pro-Tec.

4. OVERALL
This is a great peice of equipment. It looks great and feels SOLID on the head. The few comedy tappety-taps I have taken have been hardly fealt. The remarks about me looking like the Police Biker from the Village People were a bit more cutting, but I don't care cos I think it looks the mutts-nuts! The lack of a protective bag is not too big a deal but could maybe be thought about for future???
