Petzl are pretty much well known for there head torches along with the high quality climbing kit they produce. The Petzl Zoom has to be the industry standard but Petzl haven't just sat back, they have been working hard on new products. One of these products is the Tikka head torch. Weighing in at 70 grams the Tikka is a light and compact piece of kit.

The Tikka uses three incredibly bright LED's rather than traditional or halogen bulbs. This means that the LED's will give you full power for up to 12 hours and then continue on lower power levels for a further 150 hours on three AAA batteries. The area of projected light (on full power) is sufficient enough to allow you to see clearly for around 8m's total darkness. Not bad for such a small torch!

Unlike headtorches such as their Zoom the Tikka is a fixed system that does not allow any angle adjustment. Petzl have thought about this and have mounted the LED's at the perfect angle to take care of this. A slightly heavier Tikka, the Tikka plus does come with an angle adjustment fitting.

As winter approaches the Tikka may prove to be a useful bit of kit if you find yourself stuck out on a river for longer than you expected!
