A
splitwheel is another form of the standard cartwheel. Initaition
and body rotation is the same. However the splitwheel involves
a change in direction mid way through the cartwheel sequence.
OK a difficult move to describe but here we go. Set up for a
cartwheel and initiate your first end with your boat on edge.
Whilst edging your weight will be balanced on one hip (lets
say for arguments sake the left hand side). As the boats bow
enters the water slow the move down by trying to stand on your
footrests. Now quickly drop the opposite edge and rotate your
body in the other direction (pirouette - this will produce the
split). Use lots of edge to bring the stern of your boat below
you and slice it through the water. You should now be cartwheeling
in the opposite direction.
