Pyranha Burn 3 – A Closer Look

Liam Chambers’ new Pyranha Burn III looks superb. The Red/White/Blue colour scheme really suits the shape of the boat. We’ll be seeing more of this boat in Liam’s videos over the next few months. Continue reading

Pinkston Watersports Preview

A nice little video showing the new WW development up in Scotland from friend of Unsponsored Mark Mulrain.

Pinkston Watersports Preview from Mark Mulrain on Vimeo.

I was very lucky to get a try on Glasgow’s new whitewater course on the 22nd of January.

The design of the course is not final, plans are in place to move the blocks around to make the features as good as they can be.

What a great facility for Scottish kayaking!

Upper Jalacingo

Upper Jalacingo from Creek Sides on Vimeo.

The Upper Jalacingo in Veracruz is one of the jewels of Mexico. There are so many great runs it’s hard to nail down just one jewel. You’ll want a guide to make your day down Upper Jah under 4 hours and a good time. Many of Jalacingo’s 6-7 portages aren’t obvious and it is not advised, missing one. There are so many slides and drops it would easily take all day to get through the Upper’s rapids.

SD Card Recommendations – GoPro, Drift, Contour

One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. Now this doesn’t matter if your camera is a GoPro, Contour, Garmin, Sony or whatever because without a good memory card you may struggle to capture the video footage you want.

Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?

The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for all SD cards, including both full and micro sized versions. Speed Class is a minimum speed based on a worst case scenario test and represents the minimum transfer rate of data that the card is capable of.

Mexico Part I

Mexico part 1 from Creek Sides on Vimeo.

Creek Sides went to Mexico this year and what we found was nothing short of spectacular. The Valles area hosts a myriad of waterfalls that are fun, some are easy, and some… are as big as you’ll ever want to go. We went on to Veracruz to spend time on Alseseca. The Alseseca is one of those special places you rarely come across, if ever. It’s why creek siders come from all over to experience its magic. The quality and quantity of whitewater in Veracruz is nearly unmatched, the world over. When you are ready to fly off big waterfalls, go deep into remote canyons, or even explore first descents.. you won’t have to travel far. It’s all here and when your day is over tacos and beer aren’t far away either. Here’s are some highlights on how our trip began. Stay tuned… more to come.

River Tawe Jan 2014 Scotty Camera Mount Experiments

River Tawe Jan 2014 Scotty camera mount experiments from Five Element Productions on Vimeo.

A test of the Scotty kayak mount with a GoPro. WARNING: This video contains shots of mild white water kayaking slowed down in an attempt to make it look far more dramatic than it actually was…

This trip also resulted in a rather embarrasing swim after going through a stopper and hitting an edy by mistake before getting sucked back into said stopper for a head pounding. Scotty mount survived it nicely though!

A Few Kayak Repairs

I spent lunch time today carrying out a few kayak repairs by welding up a couple of boats. The first was a 6 month old Pyranha Karnali which had been damaged after its pilot left it to run the Morriston River Race by itself. First impressions indicated that the nose of the boat has been turned up, however the hull shows no sign of deformation.

Mount Star GoPro Mount

Using a GoPro can mean that your camera angles are pretty much the same – from the helmet or from your boat. Sometimes the best shots are those that rely on the camera being on the bank, on a bridge or on a paddle. But at the same time you don’t want to be hauling a great pile of kit that takes ages to set up. In my boat a carry a small GoPro roll bag that contains a few bits and bobs for my GoPro while I am on the river. This includes spare cards, battery and a gorilla pod. Small tripods are super useful but you need a way of attaching your GoPro camera to them.

Weekend Warriors

Weekend Warriors from Erin Savage on Vimeo.

We put this video together to highlight good lines, to promote women in the sport and most importantly, to have fun with our friends! You’re not going to see any huge waterfalls or first descents in this video, but we hope you’ll find something that might motivate you in whatever you’re doing, whether it be work, school, or kayaking. See you on the river.
