Wavesport Recon 93 Vs Liquid Logic Stomper 90

I have taken some time before writing this post as I wanted the new boat syndrome to subside before putting my thoughts onto the site.

Putting my cards on the table I prefer the Recon. The reasons why follow below.

It’s fair to say that the Stomper and Recon sit firmly within the same genre and will naturally be compared and pondered over by prospective new owners. So it seems fitting to throw this post out there for the masses. For the many who have emailed me over the last couple of weeks – sorry it has taken so long. Continue reading

Astrals New PFD

Astral have released details of their new YTV PFD. It looks like a nice and simple design. It’s definitely one I’d like to try out.

For 2013 we are proud to announce new freestyle inspired design from Astral, the YTV. This newest addition to the line introduces our Torso-Lock™ foam platform that has been in evolution for almost 8 years now. The YTV was created to be “Simple by Design” to address the specific needs of freestyle kayakers , sailors, and general use whitewater enthusiasts. We also wanted to create a design that was ideal for first time paddlers looking for a comfortable and easy to use lifevest.

Storage – Dry Bags and Stuff Sacks

Over the years I have managed to amass a huge number of dry bags in various different sizes and various different materials. Despite the wide range and variety they have all been purchased with the intention of keeping my kit clean and dry. In most cases the kit I want protected are things that must be kept dry at all costs, for example, spare clothing, mobile phone and car keys. I therefore have a number of “go to” drybags and stuff sacks that I know I can depend upon.

Fluid Flirt – Review

You don’t see very many Fluid kayaks here in the UK. Fluid Kayaks – The company is headed by Celliers Kruger, one of South Africa’s most accomplished whitewater paddlers.

The Flirt is our tried and tested playboat that continues to deliver great playboating performance while being a great little riverrunner at the same time.

The Flirt features a large planing hull with a bit of kick-rocker at the bow and stern. It is very loose and bounces on command. Aerial moves come naturally, and the full-length carving rails with aggressive cut-aways at the stern make for an exciting ride on green waves.

The outfitting on the Flirt could be considered as basic. The ratchet backrest is comfortable and is adjusted via some ratchets located on the base of the seat. The seat itself is comfortable and is fairly easy to outfit out with some foam and glue or by using the strap in hip pads.

Nite Ize ClipLit LED

The Nite Ize ClipLit LED is a bright, water-resistant white light encased in a durable plastic housing and molded to a rugged plastic carabiner clip.

A quarter turn clockwise switches the light on. This is super easy to use, switching off simply requires a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The clip has the same profile as the clips on the S biner and has the same gate system. The clip seams pretty robust. I haven’t managed to break one yet.

Modified GoPro Leash System

I’ve been using a leash on my GoPros since I first started to use the cameras for boating. I have been well aware that if knocked off my boat or helmet that the backdoor of the GoPro will be put under a great deal of stress.

This week I made another leash and add a half-hitch around the thumbscrew. All things being well this should help take the impact load if the leash is ever need.

More GoPro stuff can be found here.
