A couple of years ago I knocked up my own GoPro grip system using a cut off from a kayak paddle shaft. It worked really well and I managed to get some good/steady shots whilst using it. Recently I was sent a GoPro Grenade Grip to try out.

Now the biggest draw back to this system compare to my own DIY setup is the fact you need to remove the GoPro’s QR mount to use the Grenade Grip. Now accepting that as a fact how does the grip perform.

Well its a nicely made piece of kit that is relatively light and feels pretty robust. The grip area is very similar to a grip used on a mountain bike.

The rubber provides a solid feel and allows you to use the Grenade Grip even when you hands are wet or muddy. There is a wrist strap attached which gives an extra level of security should you lose your grip.

The nut used to secure your GoPro to the GoPro OEM mount fits the GoPole Grenade Grip nut recess perfectly, but you do need to watch out for dropping it when you remove the camera from the system.
