A new GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition landed at Unsponsored HQ during the course of today and has just been unpacked. Other than the video upgrades there also seems to be a number of changes to unit that are not apparent when looking at the pre-release images.

In the box is the usual booklets, safety advice, skeleton backdoor, 2 x extender pieces, 1 x curved mount, 1 x flat mount, USB lead, additional QR and stickers. The notable difference between this and the GoPro 3+ is the lack of a remote fob.

The form a factor the the actual camera remains the same as the 3 and 3+ series but there have been a number of changes.

This includes the widely published change with the LED screen and battery. In addition to this I have noticed a change in the location of the internal microphone which is now located on the opposite side of the camera above the USB/HDMI/SD card ports.

The red (recording) and blue (wifi) LEDs have been removed from the front of the unit. The other three red status LEDs can still be found around the unit in the same positions as found on the Hero 3+.

The texture of the black rubberised panels have also changed from a cross hatched design on the Hero 3+ to a series of diagonal lines on the Hero 4.

The battery is clearly different with access to the battery compartment via the bottom of the unit. The door to the unit is far easier to use than the one on the Hero 3+ and also remains attached so loss is no longer a problem.

The button on the side of the Hero 4 has also changed. On the Hero 3+ this button was used to turn on/off wifi. On the Hero 4 the slighter larger button still switches on/off connectivity but also allows you to select what the camera is actually going to connect to.
