September each year brings a number of things autumn in northern hemisphere and a new GoPro Hero camera. The Hero10 is no longer the latest GoPro POV Action Camera as the Hero11 came out last year. However it is still available and can be found for a decent price online.

The GoPro Hero10 isn’t hugely different from the GoPros we have seen previously. In reality the GoPro Hero10 is an incremental improvement on the GoPro Hero9 maintaining the same form factor and the front facing colour LCD screen.

The GoPro Hero10 is a compact and durable action camera that is suitable for a variety of outdoor activities. It features a front-facing color LCD screen, which allows you to preview and play back your footage, as well as navigate the camera’s menus. The Hero10 is powered by a rechargeable battery, which lasts for a decent amount of time and can be easily replaced if needed. Carrying a couple of spares isnt going to weight you down.
One of the main improvements of the Hero10 over its predecessor, the Hero9, is the expanded range of frame rates and resolutions it can capture. These include 5.3K at 30 or 60 frames per second, 4K at 24, 30, 60, or 120 frames per second, 2.7K at 60, 120, or 240 frames per second, and 1080p at 30, 60, 120, or 240 frames per second. This allows you to choose the best setting for your particular activity and lighting conditions..

The GoPro Hero10 uses microSD cards. It is important to use a high-quality, high-capacity microSD card with the Hero10 in order to ensure that it performs at its best. It is recommended to use a microSD card with a Class 10 or UHS-3 rating, and with a capacity of at least 32GB.
UHS sets a minimum transfer of data that the card is capable of in a similar way to the SD speed class.
U1 – 10MB/s (same as class 10)
U3 – 30MB/s
This can be seen on cards as a number within a bucket/U.

U3 is pretty new and is a response to ensure that consumers can easily identify those cards with the highest transfer rates suitable for 4K/2K filming. If your card is not U3 this doesn’t necessarily mean that it is not up to the job. It may simply not be labeled with the new U3 symbol.
It is also a good idea to use a microSD card with a high write speed (speed class rating) in order to ensure that the camera can save large amounts of data quickly and efficiently. Some options that are compatible with the Hero10 include the SanDisk Extreme/Extreme Plus, the Samsung EVO Plus, and the Lexar Pro 1066x silver series. It is always a good idea to check the manufacturer’s website for the most up-to-date information on compatible microSD cards. Using a lower-quality card may limit the camera’s capabilities and result in lost footage.
In addition to the expanded range of frame rates, the Hero10 also includes HyperSmooth 4.0, an upgraded image stabilization feature. This helps to produce smooth and stable footage, even when the camera is being subjected to rough handling or vibrations. HyperSmooth 4.0 is available at 5.3K 30fps, 4K 60fps, and 2.7K 120fps, and it also offers horizon leveling with a tilt limit of up to 45 degrees (up from 27 degrees in the Hero9). This can be especially useful when capturing action sports or activities that involve a lot of movement.

The Hero10 can also be used for livestreaming, and HyperSmooth 4.0 is available for this purpose as well. This can be a great feature if you want to share your activities with friends and followers in real-time.
In terms of video quality, the Hero10 delivers sharp and detailed footage in 5.3K, with a high bit rate of 60 megabits per second. It also has improved low-light performance, particularly at dusk and sunset, but low-light video indoors may be softer and noisier due to the small 23.6-megapixel sensor.
In terms of durability, the Hero10 is built to withstand tough conditions, with a waterproof design that allows you to take it diving or surfing. The unit is waterproof to 10 meters without a housing so straight out of the box it is perfect for most water based sports. It also has a rugged, shock-resistant exterior that can handle drops and bumps without any problems.
As with all GoPro cameras the way in which the Hero10 is attached to mounts is exactly the same. Other than the prongs on the bottom of the camera can now be folded away.
Overall, the GoPro Hero10 is a solid update to the Hero9, with improved frame rates, resolutions, and image stabilization. It is a reliable and versatile action camera that is suitable for a wide range of activities.
