Riot Booster – Review

I tried the Booster 60 over the course of a day on the flat and at a local play spot. Initially I was quite surprised by its overall size. The room offered inside is excellent and with the new 2002 outfitting getting comfortable was not an issue. It comes fitted with a multitude of ratchet adjustable fittings including backrest, thigh-straps and footrest. And thankfully Riot have ditched those awful “strap” adjustable devices seats and opted for a “bolted” in option with comfy foam pad.

In the water the Booster was very predictable – it goes where you want it to, and it’s forgiving. For the play boat aspect, well for my size and weight the Booster 60 was not ideal but would excel running any sort of river. It did however try playing in a number of holes and found the Booster 60 to surf well and was quite easy to spin – even easier than the Disco or Trickster. To get the most out of the design I guess I would need to try the 55 where its size would be more akin to a play machine for a guy of my weight.

The ratchet system will need care and attention to make sure it has a long and reliable life – regular greasing would do. So not really a great strain on your paddling time.

I guess that if you want one boat that will do it all the Booster series would serve you well – they will surf, river run and play well. And with three different sizes in the range you should be able to find a boat that will fit you and your preferred style of paddling.

Thanks for the review. You mention it may have been a bit big for you… What is your height/weight? I am 5’9 and 165, considering getting a booster 60 but am worried it may b too big?

    Thanks.

Taller and heavier than you are. The 55 might be worth a try.
