When the Orchy floods! “On this day the Orchy was the highest I’ve ever seen it. It was so high in fact that we had to ditch our cars at the top and walk the shuttle as the river had burst its banks and was in the road. I had previously heard that the record high water lap of the Orchy was done in a playboat with no portages, so when we got to the first class V, Easan Dubha, my thoughts were, well that looks full on, but if someone did it in a playboat then I should be ok in my RPM. The line involved linking three must-make moves to avoid some very serious ledge holes. I scouted for nearly 45 minutes before I decided to go for it. I couldn’t have asked for a better line. As I rounded the next bend in the river with the rapid behind me, screaming with joy, I spotted a huge glassy wave which I managed to catch and surf for a solid ten minutes as I waited for Will and Joe who had set safety. I later learned the story of the high water descent in a playboat was actually a rumour, and that we had probably just set the high water record.” – @joereadickins
