Palm Impact Spraydeck – First Look

Thanks to Palm Equipment and Northshore Watersports (for piggy backing delivery) I have a Palm Impact Spraydeck in for review. The Palm Impact replaces the Extreme as Palm’s top end neoprene bungee deck. First impressions are good. The deck looks and feels solid. It is well made and the black/lime colour scheme is bang on trend!

On the outside there is a protective 4mm Armortex reinforcement to increase the robustness of the deck. This should make the Impact of interest to those who put their decks through a rough time.

Liquid Logic Remix – Review

The Remix is LiquidLogics displacement hull river runner. The boat has a strong following across the globe but you don’t see very many of them here in the UK. I managed to get a loan of a Remix 79 for a few weeks and spent a number of days on the water in various conditions and locations.

Palm Equipment Zenith 2013 – Review

The last Palm dry top I owned was probably a River Tec number from over 10 years ago. Since then I have been using Immersion Research or Sweet. I was therefore pretty intrigued by the new crop of Palm dry tops including the Palm Zenith.

New 2014 Pyranha Burn

1013725_10151576373482123_1564674197_n

The Pyranha Burn has been a huge success here in the UK and around the world. For 2014 Pyranha have made the Burn longer, thinner and faster. Essentially the best features of the Mk I and Mk II Burn have been combined to create the new Burn.

The third generation Burn is the latest in Pyranha’s long line of cutting edge river runners. Paddlers have come to rely on the Burn’s combination of playful hull, precise edges and forgiving deck profile for everything from the beginnings of whitewater to Class V creeks. Continue reading

Jackson Kayak – Zen Review

The Zen is Jackson’s medium volume river running machine. The kayak is designed to sit between the full on creeker the Karma and the Star playboat range.

Jackson has designed the Zen to be a performance river runner that is capable of tackling most grades of water. Having spent a great deal of time paddling the Liquid Logic Remix and Wavesport Diesel over the last couple of years I was interested in how the Zen would perform.I paddled the Zen 75 over the course of a couple of months in a number of different white water and flat-water location. I sit right within the middle of the recommended weight range.

Watershed Ocoee – A Year On

Although I have a Sony TX10 waterproof digital camera there are times when it’s not quite up to the job. These situations include occasions when I’m photographing in low light or at longer distances. In these instances a DSLR is really the only way to go.

Immersion Research The Royale Spray Skirt – First Look

Thanks to the guys at Immersion Research I was hooked up with one of the brand new Immersion Research The Royale spray skirts.

Now I have have said this before but will say it again – for most of my paddling career (28yrs+) I have used Playboater decks and it has only been Immersion Research who have been able to tempt me away from the brand. At present I own a couple of IR skirts. The first is a rand based (more on that later) skirt the Special K and the bungee based Klingon Empire. The latter has been my go to deck for over a year – I love it!
