Although the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=go%20pro%20silver%20edition&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Silver edition<\/a> on paper is the same as the Hero 2 its low light capabilities and the overall quality of the video\/images produced is far better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compatibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. All of your mounts and usual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsponsored.co.uk:\/press\/?p=2497\" title=\"Must have GoPro Accessories\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GoPro<\/a> accessories will work with the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B009PK9S90\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=19450&amp;creativeASIN=B009PK9S90\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GoPro Hero 3<\/a> case. E.G. Chest Mount, Handlebar mounts etc<\/p>\n<p>2. You will need different <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsponsored.co.uk:\/press\/?p=1836\" title=\"Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">memory cards<\/a> for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=gopro&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hero 3<\/a>. The Hero 1 and Hero 2 accept SD and SDHC cards while the 3 accepts <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsponsored.co.uk:\/press\/?p=1836\" title=\"Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Micro SD cards<\/a>. I have found that some retailers sell the same capacity Micro version for less than the standard size. You will be able to swap a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsponsored.co.uk:\/press\/?p=1836\" title=\"Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Micro SD card<\/a> into the Hero 2 if you have an adaptor. The <a href=\"ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B009TCD8V8&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black edition<\/a> has the ability to take stills and video at the same time. I have therefore settled on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsponsored.co.uk:\/press\/?p=1836\" title=\"Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">32GB card<\/a> for the time being as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsponsored.co.uk:\/press\/?p=1836\" title=\"Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">64GB cards<\/a> are still quite pricey but are starting to come down in price. If you are wondering what card would be best and what all the figures mean check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unsponsored.co.uk:\/press\/?p=1836\" title=\"Which SD Memory Card For My GoPro?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">my ramblings on SD cards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>3. The Hero 3 uses a different size battery. Therefore you will not be able to swap between the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B005WY3TI4\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B005WY3TI4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1\/2<\/a> and 3. Additional betteries are avilable from GoPro and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=gopro%20wasabi&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wasabi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>4. The back panel of the Hero 3 case is the same as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B005WY3TI4\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B005WY3TI4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hero 2<\/a>.  In my case this means I don&#8217;t have to go out and buy another <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B005HIS5LQ\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B005HIS5LQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Floaty back door back<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>5. All bacpac accessories are backward compatible but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B00AEXPWK6\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B00AEXPWK6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new touch screen LCD<\/a> unit will not work as a touch screen on HD 2 units.<\/p>\n<p>Which edition to get will be a tough choice that may be driven by cost, intended use or even availability.  For my money I believe that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=go%20pro%20silver%20edition&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Silver edition<\/a> will actually fulfil most peoples needs and offers the middle ground. Combine the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/search\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_sr_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;index=aps&amp;keywords=go%20pro%20silver%20edition&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">silver<\/a> with a few choice mounts for your particular application and either use the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B008LCVREM\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B008LCVREM&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WiFi remote<\/a> or smart phone and you have a pretty versatile setup. For some even the white edition may prove to be a good choice if video is only going to be uploaded to the likes of Vimeo or Youtube.  The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/gp\/product\/B009TCD8V8\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;creativeASIN=B009TCD8V8&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=unsponsocouk-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">black<\/a> has lots of cool little tweaks but in all likelihood the 4k and 2.7k videos will never really be seen until other areas of consumer technology catchup and become more affordable. If your wallet can take the hit go for the black, if it can&#8217;t and the silver edition is the one you will be going for don&#8217;t worry.
