The low water season lasts from July to January. At other times the Zambezi is still more than worth a go, but some of the wave trains are washed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The put in for both low and high water runs lies just down stream from the bottom of Victoria falls and is know as the boiling pot. The subsequent rapids down the Bokata gorge are separated by distinct pools of slack water. This has allowed the rapids in the one day run to be individually numbered from 1 -18. Rapids #19 to #25 represent a grade 2\/3. Rapid #23 is the last rapid on the \u201chigh water\u201d one-day run.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This great edit from Prijon Talk shows rapids #1-13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kayaking the mighty Zambezi Rapids 1-13\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kceNpmf-S5Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Rapids&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#1 aka \u201cBack against the wall\u201d \u2013 the water in the 100m gorge is forced around a tight 90 degree turn, which results in a huge pile being formed against the gorge wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#2 aka \u201cBetween 2 worlds\u201d \u2013 an easy rapid with plenty of gentle play opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#3 aka \u201cBits &amp; Pieces\u201d \u2013 like #2 an easy rapid with plenty of gentle play opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#4 aka \u201cMorning Glory\u201d \u2013 this is the first \u201cmajor\u201d rapid with two distinct holes to contend with. You can sneak past the first left or right and then the second on the left. A good pasting should result in being washed into the bottom pool. Gather your kit an then ready for the off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#5 aka \u201cStairway to heaven\u201d \u2013 this rapid has a serious repuatation. It\u2019s big but technically not that difficult! Get your line right, avoid the massive pour over and the huge hole and your home free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#6 aka \u201cDevils toilet bowl\u201d \u2013 a single hole that can be easily by passed on either side, or played in if feeling brave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#7 aka \u201cGullivers travels\u201d \u2013 out of the 18 rapids this one has to be the longest. It is divided into three sections; Indicator rock, The crease, and Land of the Giants. Simply pick your line and go for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#8 aka \u201cMidnight Diner\u201d \u2013 A meaty rapid with the \u201cmuncher\u201d and \u201cstar trek\u201d waves to deal with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#9 aka \u201cCommercial Suicide\u201d \u2013 raft parties portage this rapid! There is a reason why, you just need to see this one to find the answer. #9 provides some unbeleivably large holes and waves. Just remeber \u2013 low brace and roll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#10 aka \u201cGnashing Jaws of Death\u201d \u2013 a large, simple wave train.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#11 aka \u201cThe Overland Truck Eater\u201d \u2013 a couple of serious holes, followed by mega boils and whirlpools!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#12a\/b\/c aka \u201cThe 3 Sisters\u201d \u2013 12b is one of the best play waves found anywhere. This awesome tubing wave can be seen on the Wicked Liquid series of videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#13 aka \u201cThe Mother\u201d \u2013 big waves that form a technically easy wave train. Go from the centre and keep on paddling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#14 forms on the big S-bend in the river. The centre chute should be avoided at lower water levels.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#15 aka \u201cWashing Machine\u201d \u2013 a simple wave train with a huge crashing hole \u2013 go left or right into the eddy.Pick your lines carefully and scout when you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#16 aka \u201cThe Terminators I and II\u201d \u2013 a massive wave train and trough at higher levels, not much when low.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#17 aka \u201cDouble Trouble\u201d \u2013 a simple wave train with 2 large holes \u2013 also known as \u201cThe Bitch\u201d. Pick your lines carefully and scout when you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">#18 aka \u201cOblivion\u201d \u2013 three waves make up THE rapid on the Zambezi.. The 3rd crashing wave is responsible for more raft flips than any other in the world \u2013 only about 1 in 4 attempts succeed! This rapid marks the end of the \u201clow water\u201d one-day run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>This can be run left or right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An extreme walk out must then be endured.
