Necky Switch – Review

The Switch is an excellent park and play boat which can also be used on rivers. The outfitting is very basic but very effective as well as being comfortable. I am a little over 6″ with size 11 feet and I remained comfortable in the boat for long sessions.

Old School Series – Necky Gliss

The Necky Gliss is one of the nicest all round boats I have ever paddled. It goes well on flat water, tracks well and has reasonable speed without the bow plough. On the wave the gliss handles very well, it is well balanced and has a good combination of speed and spinability.

Outfitting by today’s standards can be seen as basic with keeper footrests and static seat and foam backrest pod. But once padded out the boat feels good and fits well. I used a combination of sleepmat on the seat and Mega competition hip pads.

Kit Update March 2013

I have had several emails asking for another run down of my kit and how it is holding up, so here goes.

First and foremost my Astral Brewer shoes haven’t had a look in. Time and time again I go for the Five Ten Water Tennies. Through the winter they have been great. They’ve performed well on wet greasy rock, mud and snow/ice. The laces and eyelets are all in place and the soles are wearing incredibly well.

Custom Drysuit?

Kokatat make some of the best kayaking kit – period. Kokatat’s reputation for well fitting and bomber kit is well deserved.

As yet I haven’t been fortunate to try out any Kokatat kit, but I am blown away at the fact I could have a custom drysuit direct from the factory. This is well worth checking out.

Here is my custom Gore Tex Meridian.

GoPro – The Right And Wrong

The GoPro series of cameras are superb, small robust and not too expensive. It is now so easy to knock together a short video or your paddling and share it with the world. Anyone can do it and quite alot do. That is where the problem starts. It is really easy to get a video that looks like all the other kayaking videos that end up on youtube, vimeo and Facebook early each week.

Wavesport Ethos – Review

How about having a kayak that you can easily tour sheltered coastal water and lakes with a load of kit one day and then run whitewater the next. If that is your thing then what you might want to consider is getting a cross-over kayak. This area of the market has grown a great deal over the last couple of years with all of the major manufactures bringing out their own versions of the cross-over platform.

Which Is The Best GoPro?

My Gopro Hero 3 Black edition arrived in the UK a couple of weeks ago. The form factor will be familiar to all who have seen or already own the white or silver editions.

DSC03607

Looking at the different cameras (I have silver and black editions) the “3” within Hero3 is coloured to match the cameras edition. That is the Black edition 3 is black and the Silver Editions 3 is silver etc. But what really makes the white, silver and black editions different to one another is what goes on inside.
