Immersion Research Double D Drysuit Repair

A couple of weeks ago I managed to put a hole in my Immersion Research double D dry suit and my knee. The damage was low impact and was more like a burn/tear than just a straight tear. My knee has been pretty painful but thankfully has begun to repair well.

On the Sunday that the damage occurred I contacted Immersion Research via their dedicated online support system asking whether I could send my drysuit to them for repair. They replied really quickly, it wasn’t a problem and my suit was sent off the following weekend.

Pin/Rescue Kit Part II – Throwbags

Carrying and being able to use a rope effectively/safely are key skills that every paddler should have and practice. First things first, if you intend on carrying/using a throw bag or a rope then you should also be carrying a knife. That knife should be capable of cutting through your throw line with ease, therefore it must be super sharp and hold its edge. Lots of great information about all things sharp and keeping them sharp can be found over on British Blades.

Eskimo Nano – Review

The Nano has been about for a few years now. It’s made from Prijons/Eskimo’s bombproof HTTP plastic which doesn’t require central foam pillars to provide the boat with rigidity. This in itself puts the Nano in the enviable position of being able to have a narrow bow whilst still having adequate foot room. The boat is also considerably lighter than some on the market which is great for long walk ins/outs.

Pyranha Jed – First Paddle

Today (Sat 26th May 2012) was the first time that my large Pyranha Jed has been near water. The afternoon spent outfitting the boat last weekend had paid off. Everything was set up bang on.

A job that I did not do was check the screws and bolts. Most of the Pyranha fittings are protected from leaks with an O-ring/washer system. It appears that the front grab handle may not be. The handle is held on with security Torx bolts. Fortunately I have the kit that will allow me to back these off and add some sealant.

I only spent around 3 hours paddling the boat today. So these thoughts are very initial. Continue reading
