I’ve been paddling the Axiom 8.5 for some time now and, being at the top of its weight range (I’m 185lb dry weight) and at the limit of its internal dimensions (6’4″ with size 15 feet), I wondered how the 9.0 would feel for me. After paddling both for a few months, I can share my impressions, in case someone else would be trying to make a similar choice.

The new Rescue Belt from Palm is very similar to the Zambezi River Belt. The main difference being that the Rescue Belt lacks the tow loop/pouch but gains 2 x D-rings.

Some of you may not know that as well as kayaking I am heavily into hammocking. So much so that I have been making tarps, hammocks, underquilts and top quilts for around four years!
One the really great things about Prijon and Eskimo river running and creeking boats was the fact that they all came supplied with a bow air bag. That bag played an important role keeping water out of the void between the full plate footrest and the bow.

The favourite of expedition paddlers for many years the Peli range of storage cases have an unrivaled reputation for strength, durability and waterproofness.
The Peli range covers a vast array of possible applications from rifle case to lunch box! However their use as an expedition camera case is where its main use lies and their reputation has been built. The most appropriate sizes to consider for this use are probably the 1200 and 1300 series for cameras and the 1120 for carrying a GoPro and a few accessories.
This one has been kicking around for some time in the archives. The Burn is super popular kayak. It is pretty versatile and is liked/loved by beginners and experienced paddlers alike.

Getting a spraydeck that fits you and your boat is crucial if you want to keep the water out. All boats are different and all decks are different, so it’s important to do a little research on what deck fits your boat the best.
One of my favourite resources is Skirt Fit. It is an online database that contains most of the popular boats and decks that are currently on the market. It is well worth checking out.
