Blackfly have recently released details of the Condor. The Condor is Blackfly’s 11’3″ PE river-running open canoe.
This new canoe looks pretty interesting so we threw a few questions over to Chris Loomis at Blackfly to tell us a little bit more.

If you were to take a quick look at the new Gul Saco dry top you could mistake it to be from another well known manufacturer. This is because it has the kind of features and detail you would expect to see in a kayaking dry top from a more well established kayaking gear producer and not from a firm that is relatively new to this part of the market. This is definitely a good thing in terms of its features as it has the elements that paddlers would want. Gul aren’t strangers to the world of watersports but dedicated high end kayaking gear has been missing from there range over the years. Gul started as a wetsuit company and developed the first “steamer” wetsuit back in the early days of surfing in the UK.
The Saco dry top in conjunction with a number of other other new designs is set to change this.
Dagger have revealed the Dagger Stratos 2019. As you can see in the images it is going to be available in the Aurora colour scheme. The new Stratos 12.5, in L & S, is all about high performance paddling.
The GoPro Hero6 (GoPro Hero 6) is GoPro’s most powerful camera to date. It uses GoPro’s own chipset and they have upped the performance in 4k and 1080p settings. The big question for any new owner is which memory card for the GoPro Hero6 is best?
As cameras have become more capable the need for faster cards with greater capacity has become more important. Get it wrong and you could lose your footage.

I had stumbled upon a post about Dewerstone’s campaign to raise funds to get the Dewerstone Life Shorts into production via Kickstarter. I had heard/seen a fair bit about Kickstarter but this was the first time that I was motivated to invest.
Corran has been designing again. This is what a new Disco V2 could look like.
For those of you who weren’t around at the time of the original Disco the boat really stepped things up in terms of what a small park and play kayak could do. Being based on the hull of the rule changing Riot Glide it had a head start on virtually all other small playboats out at the time.
So Corran is looking at a revamp of the old design, improving what wasn’t quite right at the time and stepping things up yet another notch. Check out this initial design concept.

With video production and video & film technology journalism being my main professions in life (I’m currently the deputy editor of RedShark News if you’re interested) I am quite often asked how to get the best from cameras, and how best to edit. To quote Anthony Hopkins as the elder Zorro, this is going to take a lot of work!
Okay maybe not a huge amount, but effort will be involved. I’m mainly going to talk about the GoPro cameras, particularly the Black Edition from version 5 onwards, with a focus on the 6, because frankly these are the best on the market no matter what’s the on-paper specifications of rival cameras tell you. Paper specs only tell you half the story. I know there are alternatives such as the Yi 4K cameras. But those have limitations such as the LCD screen being completely impossible to view in daylight. And if you are going to get varied shots, having a screen that you can actually see is important!
The GoPro Hero 6 Black has a huge and varied set of settings that can be adjusted, and an extremely comprehensive number of frame rates and resolutions. So much so that to the technically uninitiated it can be completely befuddling.
Having said that, much of what I say here is still quite highly transferable to other makes. Mainly because making good video is down to how you use the camera rather than the features it has. But… And there is always a but, the settings you use will still have a big influence if you know how to use them.
