Yonton in the Playboat Proto from Shaneslogic on Vimeo.

We got Yonton set up in the latest proto of the Liquidlogic Playboat and headed to the river.

Overthrusters

Overthrusters are plates of plastic designed by Immersion Research that cover the front of the cockpit and prevent your spraydeck from being pushed down by the water. Pyranha, Liquid Logic and Dagger have all used the IR system at one time or another. Since there introduction all similar systems have been given the term Overthruster.

Boat: I’ve been paddling a Medium Burn for four months now on everything from flat water in Ireland to Grade 4 in the alps. In that time if found it to be a gem of a boat. The best part being the rails which work extremely well at getting the boat in to and out of eddy’s as well as ferry gliding.

Sweet Protection Prodigy Range

The Prodigy range of kit from Sweet Protection are designed for both on and off water use. I’ve been using one of the earlier one piece suits for a couple of seasons and it is doing really well.

The Prodigy products are warm and very comfortable garments made in a four-way stretch one-sided brushed fleece with excellent moisture wicking properties. Offering a snug fit achieved by strategically patterned panels joined together with flatlock seams.

Insulation

Staying both warm and dry makes any kayaking adventure that much more pleasant. I’ve been kayaking for over 25 years now and am amazed how much the kit has moved on during that time. Way back then getting soaked to the bone was pretty much a standard feature of paddling even if you didn’t swim. Even though staying dry is much easier and therefore makes keeping warm itself so much easier it’s important to get your insulation layers right.

I tend not to feel the cold as most folk but I still pick my insulation layers really carefully to make sure that I not only stay nice and warm but that I do not over heat. I personally find overheating way worse than being too cold.

GoPro Battery Alternatives

I’ve been using both the OEM GoPro and Wasabi batteries in my GoPro 3 with great success. However this triple pack (at under £15) from Duragadget are also doing really well. Reviews from across the net are confirming my findings that they are definitely up to the job and are superb value.

I also have a GoPro battery BacPac in for test, to date this is working really well. I don’t like the additional weight when wearing the unit on my helmet, but when it’s on the boat or tripod it is spot on.

Dagger Redline – Review

The Dagger Redline as far as I am concerned is a solid performer that should not be overlooked. It has some of the best features of the Dagger RPM and the newer Axiom. The boat is table, forgiving and comfortable to paddle. By modern day standards the outfitting is basic but it is still effective. Getting a good fit isn’t hard.
