GoPro Float

Having around £300 worth of GoPro camera sink to the bottom of the river is not a pleasant experience. I have been there and it is not nice.

GoPro Float

I now have a GoPro float on all of my cameras. The OEM float comes supplied with an additional back door and costs around £13.

It does a superb job but it is quite costly for what it is. I have tried a couple of other GoPro float systems that are actually the same and have found that they unsurprisingly perform very well. The only real difference is that the GoPro version comes supplied with a new backdoor.

The one shown in most of the images is available from Amazon for less than £2!

Really shows GoPros confidence in their mounting system when they sell you a float for when it comes off…

Have you tested it on a GoPro with a backdoor? I’m curious to see if it would work / float for a bit / drop like a stone. Obviously you couldn’t with the LCD Bacpac, but you could with the additional battery

It floats with a normal setup. I haven’t tried it with a backpack fitted.

I tested one of the very first Go Pro’s for PBUK nearly 10 years ago now. They were touted very much as a watersports camera then and it only came with a couple of different length rubber straps for mounting it. So without thinking about it Jace and myself strapped it onto a helmet and headed down the river at HPP to catch some inlet gate action….. it fell off the helmet whilst warming up with a couple of flat water cartwheels. Test over!!

take mini cell foam dip it in plastidip a few times, it is cheap and easy, plus you can make a larger float
