It was surprisingly cold last weekend signalling that winter is well on its way and the winter gear needs to be dug out of the spare gear bag.
One of the items placed in the main bag ready for next week is a pair of the Palm Equipment Current pogies. Pogies or paddle mitts are a great way to keep your hands warm/dry. They come in lots of varieties but are normally made from nylon/fleece or neoprene. The Palm Equipment Current pogies are made from 200D nylon and have a micro fleece liner.
I have been using a pair of the Palm Rivertec pogies for years and I guess these Current versions are a clear update of the design.
One big change from the Rivertec to the Current is that the micro fleece is bonded directly to the nylon which makes the overall product less bulky.
The pogies fasten onto the paddle shaft using Velcro and fit snuggly around the paddle helping to keep water out. Getting the pogies on is always fairly straight forward for pogie number one but as always is a little harder when getting the second one on. Palm have thought of this and there are plenty of tabs to get hold of with your teeth and even the bungee adjustment is easy to do with no hands!
