GoPro Bag Pack – First Look

A few days ago I managed to get hold of a few GoPro bits and bobs that aren’t that widely available yet. The GoPro Caps & Door Pack was one of them. I also ordered a battery and this GoPro Bag Pack.

GoPro Hero 3 Caps & Doors – First Look

I managed to track down the GoPro Hero 3 Caps + Doors accessory pack within the EU after being unable to find anyone with stock in the UK. Which makes me believe that it may not have landed in the UK at the point when I was making the order. It’s a simple and effective accessory pack for the new GoPro Hero 3. It will fit all three models – White, Silver and Black.

The pack consists of:

A cover for the lens/button on the waterproof case which will help prevent damage to the lens and will also prevent the camera being accidentally switched on during transit.

GoPro Hero 3 Part III – Kayaking & Low Light

I had the GoPro Hero 3 out this evening on the water. This was the first time I had worn the 3 on my kayak helmet. The weight difference between the 2 and 3 is very noticeable, especially when it’s on your head. This in itself is worth the upgrade.

GoPro Kayak Mount – another option

Here is another way of attaching your GoPro to your kayak. This uses the GoPro Handlebar Mount and is shown attached to the Eskimo Topo Duo I own. The handlebar mount will only work on a kayak if the grab handles are solid and thick enough.

This will work equally well with the Hero 2 and 3. In the image you can see I have used a leash just incase the camera gets knocked free and a Floaty Backdoor has also been added.

GoPro Hero 3 Part II – GoPro Hero 2 Vs GoPro Hero 3

Aside from the smaller and lighter aspects of the change there are a number of other things that need to be considered particulary if you are upgrading from the 1 or 2 to the 3. The GoPro Hero 3 doesn’t come with a whole load of accessories. You get the camera/case, 1 x Flat mount, 1 x Curved mount, 1 x Battery, 1 x 3 way Pivot Arm, 1 x QR lock, 1 x Skeleton Back, 1 x Additional (larger) QR mount.

GoPro Hero 3 Part I – First Look

My Gopro Hero HD3 Hero Silver Edition landed this AM from the guys at Summit to Sea. RRP is around £280 but they can be found for a little less.

The camera is the Silver edition which is essentially the Hero 2 but with built in Wifi. You may therefore ask what is the point of changing. Well for me its down to weight and it is this that prompted the purchase. As I wear my GoPro on my Sweet Strutter the less weight the better. I have received a great deal of stick in the past about weighing kit, but I make no apology in taking the time to weigh the GoPro 3 both with and without its case. If this offends you please leave this page now. Continue reading

GoPro Hero 3

Hot on the heals of the Wifi App comes the new GoPro Hero 3. The camera specs show that it is yet another leap forward in the action camera market.

GoPro Wifi App

The long awaited App for the GoPro Wifi Bac is now avilable on iTunes. The App is free but requires you to have a GoPro Hero 2 and Wifi Bacpac kit or a Hero 3 (Wifi is built in). A firmware update is required before you attempt to connect the App.

With the GoPro App you can now control your GoPro camera remotely using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Features include: full control of all camera settings; live, remote viewfinder/preview of your iPhone/iPod or iPad for easy shot framing, and more.

In my case I have connected my iPhone to the camera so will refer to iPhone throughout this write up with the understanding that other iOS devices can be connected.

To connect the iPhone to the GoPro I switched on the GoPro/Bacpac and navigated to the Wifi settings on the camera menu and selected the Phone/Tablet option. On my iPhone I went to settings, switched on the Wifi and connected to the GoPro Wifi network. A password is requested. The default password is “goprohero”.

New GoPro Mount System

I have been thinking about this system for a while and decided this PM to put it together. The clamp is a Quick-Grip Irwin Mini Bar Clamp. I chose this one as it has a nice flat surface near the grip. I removed the sticker and cleaned the flat section with degreaser before attaching the GoPro Flat Adhesive Mount. Continue reading

GoPro Storage Case

Picked up one of these today – SP POV Carry Case for GoPro HD. It looks pretty good and fairly compact.

GoPro LCD BacPac

I have been able to try a GoPro LCD BacPac for the last few weeks and it certainly has its advantages in certain conditions. If you are on the bank and filming then I think the LCD is a pretty good accessory to own. Or if the camera is used as a digital stills camera then I can also see that LCD BacPac has its place for framing pictures etc. However, if your GoPro spends most of its time on top of your lid then I don’t think that it would be a wise investment.

I have recently bought the wifi BacPac which promises to be able to stream live action from the camera directly to an iPhone or iPad. If the app is released soon I can’t personally see the need for the LCD BacPac.
