The GoPro series of cameras are superb, small robust and not too expensive. It is now so easy to knock together a short video or your paddling and share it with the world. Anyone can do it and quite alot do. That is where the problem starts. It is really easy to get a video that looks like all the other kayaking videos that end up on youtube, vimeo and Facebook early each week.

My Gopro Hero 3 Black edition arrived in the UK a couple of weeks ago. The form factor will be familiar to all who have seen or already own the white or silver editions.
Looking at the different cameras (I have silver and black editions) the “3” within Hero3 is coloured to match the cameras edition. That is the Black edition 3 is black and the Silver Editions 3 is silver etc. But what really makes the white, silver and black editions different to one another is what goes on inside. The LCD BacPac is designed to give extra functionality to the GoPro series of cameras. This includes the Black, Silver and White 3 series cameras and the Hero and Hero 2 cameras (but without the touch screen functionality).
The LCD BacPac is a small unit that clips onto the back of a camera and is powered from the camera itself. It allows you to edit the cameras settings, frame your shots and replay video.
I’ve been using a leash on my GoPros since I first started to use the cameras for boating. I have been well aware that if knocked off my boat or helmet that the backdoor of the GoPro will be put under a great deal of stress.
This week I made another leash and add a half-hitch around the thumbscrew. All things being well this should help take the impact load if the leash is ever need.

The App was free to download from Apple’s App Store.
My GoPro Hero 3 Black edition arrived this week. The form factor is identical to that of the Silver Edition I already have, as it’s the internals that are different.
One of the new GoPro “The Frame” mounts landed yesterday.

Accessories for the white, silver and black edition of the GoPro Pro Hero 3 are starting to pop up on Amazon and various other places.
A few days ago I managed to get hold of a few GoPro bits and bobs that aren’t that widely available yet. The GoPro Caps & Door Pack was one of them. I also ordered a battery and this GoPro Bag Pack.

I managed to track down the GoPro Hero 3 Caps + Doors accessory pack within the EU after being unable to find anyone with stock in the UK. Which makes me believe that it may not have landed in the UK at the point when I was making the order. It’s a simple and effective accessory pack for the new GoPro Hero 3. It will fit all three models – White, Silver and Black.
The pack consists of:
A cover for the lens/button on the waterproof case which will help prevent damage to the lens and will also prevent the camera being accidentally switched on during transit.
I had the GoPro Hero 3 out this evening on the water. This was the first time I had worn the 3 on my kayak helmet. The weight difference between the 2 and 3 is very noticeable, especially when it’s on your head. This in itself is worth the upgrade.
