Snowdonia National Park Planners – Open Letter

Keep up to date with the proposed hydro scheme on the Conwy in Wales by visiting Save The Conwy.

In recent days is has come to light that a number of the people who have written to the National Park Planners in support of the scheme are folk who either work directly for the company wishing to install the hydro or have a direct link to the same company e.g. subcontractors.

Flying At Lachine

As camera drone technology becomes that little more wide spread we are starting to see more and more kayak related footage that has been taken with the aid of a drone.

What A Weekend

What a weekend, the UK took a battering over the course of the weekend with water levels. The Tees rose to just under 3m at Middleton over the weekend. That is almost twice the height normally seen at this time of year.

Friend of Unsponsored Sam Ellis ran Low Force at these super high levels. To put this into context this is what Low Force typically look likes.

Searching For The Gee Spot

Searching for the Gee spot is a video that had a great influence on my freestyle paddling and encouraged me to spend lots of time getting the moves right on flatwater before progressing on to the moving stuff. Corran Addison has kindly given persmisson for Searching For The Gee Spot to be shared online via Unsponsored. Enjoy.

Searching For The Gee Spot

The quality of the video is a little bit sketchy but it is exactly the same as the VHS tape that I have.

The Afon Conwy is a unique & nationally important river designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a famous salmon & sea trout fishery and classic white water kayaking and canoeing resource.

The section of the river that will be affected by the dam includes the famous Conwy Falls waterfall a significant visitor attraction and the iconic Fairy Glen.

Pyranha 9R Large – Review

I was hooked up with a pre-production prototype of the new large Pyranha 9R a few months ago. The boat is essentially the same as the production model with the exception of some of the Connect outfitting. The boat has been paddled extensively since that time so it is now time for a full Unsponsored review.

Now if you were to sit this 9R large (9R L) next to the already released model it would be very clear that the 9R L isn’t simply a scaled up version of its little brother. Almost every area of the hull has been changed in some way yet they still have stayed true to the purpose of the boat, i.e. a fast fun boat that sits under the magic 9ft length.

Pyranha 9R Large - First Look

Pyranha have spent a fair bit of time looking at the performance of the smaller model and have significantly changed the profile of the kayak in a number of key areas to produce this version.
