GoPro Hero 4 Session Vs 4 Vs 3+ Comparison

[UPDATE: GoPro have released the 5 series of POV action cameras including the Hero 5 Black Edition and the Session 5.]

We’ve known about this for a short while but couldn’t say anything – Today GoPro announced the launched the new Hero4 session. We have one here at Unsponsored for review!

GoPro Hero4 Session

Here is everything you need to know about the new 2015 GoPro Hero4 Session.

The Session marks a shift from the GoPro format that we have been used to since its first arrival many years ago. The Session is a much smaller format and is not dependent on a housing for its 10m (33ft) waterproofing. Gone are the two buttons (only one now) and in is a smart dual microphone system designed for better sound pickup in even the harshest of conditions.

My Favorite GoPro Accessories For Travel

Getting the right number and type of GoPro accessories will help you to shoot some great footage for that holiday edit. But you need it to be fairly compact, usable and add value to the camera. Carrying loads of gear ‘just in case’ is counter productive as you’ll probably not even use it anyway. It’s all about keeping it simple.

All of these suggestions will happily work with the entire GoPro range including the Hero 4 and Hero 4 Session.

Lowe Pro Dashpoint AVC:

Firstly if the main items of my gear don’t fit in a Lowe Pro Dashpoint AVC it isn’t going. The case is designed for one camera but will happily take two GoPros.

Haglofs Ace

The Haglofs Ace is a bit of an allrounder and has been used at Unsponsored HQ for a number of years for both walking and mountain biking duties.

In this case it’s a 12l pack (medium). First it is hydration compatible (up to 3l) and this one have been used extensively for the last few years with an Osprey bladder. But there is also the possibility of carrying a couple of 1l water bottles in each of the two side pockets, one is located on each side of the pack. The hip belt can be tucked away inside of the pack (as seen above) which is a feature that Unsponsored Girl approves of as the she is not a big fan of belts on packs.

Ace Of Spades – First Look

This week a freshly wrapped Ace of Spades kayak from Spade Kayaks arrived from Austria via UK distributers System X.

Ace Of Spades - First Look

A big thanks to Kev at Northshore Watersports for handling the delivery.

There has been a few pieces of information about the Ace of Spades, including posts on this site, but there hasn’t been much in the way of detailed images. Hopefully this post will help to put this right.

The Ace of Spades is a blown moulded displacement hull kayak. It has the features that you would expect to see in any whitewater boat – adjustable outfitting, full plate footrest, multiple grab handles, drain bung etc… but many have been executed in a creative way.

GoPro Button Mod – Sugru

Have you ever got tired of not reaching your gopro on your kayak or want to place it further away to get more landscape shooting? I came up with this solution that works perfectly for me.

I came up with this idea because I got tired of killing the battery time using the gopro remote control or my smartphone. With this button I now easily can use my paddle as a remote simply by pressing the button with my paddle.

GoPro Button Mod

All you need is a good cleaning of the button, some Sugru that by the way also works great for making nose clips and drip edges on your paddle.

GoPro Lens Caps

Replacement parts are available for all of the GoPro range but I prefer to try and prevent any damage particularly when the camera and case are in my bag. One of easiest parts to damage is the lens of both the camera itself and the lens area on waterproof case. Damage to either of these will ruin footage.

What’s On The End Of The Stick, Vic?

A couple of weeks ago I got in touch with Stu Morris from Vertical Element (VE) paddles as I wanted some custom carbon work done for an upcoming project.

I have been using a set of VE paddles for years and love the design, feel and robustness of the setup. So Stu seemed to be the ideal man to contact. After a few emails and quick telephone conversation Stu confirmed that he was able to come up with a solution pretty quickly.

Liquidlogic Braaap – Review

By now you may have read a handful of Braaap first impressions penned by uber-paddlers. If you’re like me, and I know I am, you’re also interested in what your average paddle flogger thinks.

Liquidlogic Braaap - Review

However, I’ve owned old school boats, yaks designed for the Green River race and a slalom kayak, so the traits of the Braaap aren’t entirely new to me. Nonetheless, I’m an “average” paddler and any foibles mentioned in the following may be due to the shortcomings of the paddler. It’s a slippery, watermelon seed of a boat. If you’re willing to develop the right technique, the return on investment will be substantial.

Choosing The Right Helmet

Choosing the right helmet is extremely important part of getting your safety gear correct. A poorly fitting helmet may be as effective as not wearing one at all.

For any helmet it always comes down to the fit, coverage, protection offered, intended use and paddler ability.

These factors change for each person and the best way to judge these factors is with comparisons to known entities:
