One of my pet hates is folk who do not wear their helmets correctly. That goes for cyclists, climbers, paddlers, whoever. The main purpose of any helmet is to prevent the wearer being severly injured if they hit their head. Helmets and fit is an important concept.

Zet are relatively new to the UK market but have gathered a loyal band of supporters. The Zet Raptor in particular has been getting quite a lot of attention since it was released.

Zet are based in the Czech Republic and are a technical and design collaboration of the production engineer/kayak producer Zelezny, extreme kayaker Honza Lasko and the Czech whitewater slalom paddler Viktor Legat.
The Zen is Jackson’s medium volume river running machine. The kayak is designed to sit between the full on creeker the Karma and the Star playboat range.

Jackson has designed the Zen to be a performance river runner that is capable of tackling most grades of water. Having spent a great deal of time paddling the Liquid Logic Remix and Wavesport Diesel over the last couple of years I was interested in how the Zen would perform.I paddled the Zen 75 over the course of a couple of months in a number of different white water and flat-water location. I sit right within the middle of the recommended weight range.
The Dagger Jitsu is the new playboat from Dagger. It’s been a long time (in my opinion) since Dagger was at the forefront of playboat design. Many of the recent designs have been popular but have never tempted me back to the brand.

From Dagger:
Dagger brings decades of experience and team-tested, paddler-proven heritage to freestyle kayaking in the all new Jitsu Series. Tested and approved by some of the world’s most skilled paddlers, the Jitsu excels in surfing and aerial moves in wave play with volume proportions that allow skill development in hole play as well.
The Jitsu’s unique rocker profile, hull to rail relationship through the stern, carefully distributed centralized volume, and slicey tips make three dimensional combination moves in advancing hole play easier while creating a seamless blend of speed, looseness, and release on waves. The double-step carving rail above the release edge also helps the boat to grip and drive on wave faces for very controlled carving. The Jitsu maintains snappy edge-to-edge transition yet it is arguably the loosest hull on the market today.
Out-performing competitor freestyle kayaks downriver, the Jitsu is a solid all-around choice for those who want to enjoy big waves, holes on river, and freestyle competition too. Continue reading
Daggers Contour Ergo Outfitting and Wavepsorts 2012 Whiteout Outfitting are essentially the same design. Below is a closer look at the elements that make up the Dagger Outfitting in a 2013 Dagger Jitsu. This will be the same system used in all non-creeking boats with the Contour system.
The Eskimo Topo Duo is a two person version of the Topo (aka Spud). For a long time the Topo Duo was the only two person (plastic) white water kayak on the market. Chunky design, slow speed, basic outfitting – how it is so good?
When it comes to moving your seat or adjusting other parts of your kayak you need a range of tools to do the job, a kayak toolkit if you like. Most kayak manufacturers tend to use a range of screws, allen bolts and security Torx bolts to fasten the bits and bobs to your boat.

It’s hit the time of year here in the UK that it is time to put the drysuit away and dig the shorts out. It’s been a long and wet winter/spring so the kit has taken a fair bit of abuse.

I’m currently the proud owner of a Palm Spark Surface Immersion suit. When I say proud I mean it. However you need to look after your gear if you want it to last as long as possible. Leaving good gear in a damp state in the back of the car or in the bottom of a gear bag is not going to help it survive.
The suit has been a superb choice and has served me well over the last year+. It’s now time to get it ready for storage.
When the Jackson All Star made its debut at the Teva Games it stormed onto the podium with paddlers Stephen Wright with record high freestyle score of 1310 points, followed by Nick Troutman on 1295, and Dustin Urban on 1040.

The All Star range from Jackson Kayaks has probably been the most popular design of park and play kayaks over the last couple of years. 2013 has seen a major update in the design but plenty of pre-2013 boats can still be found.
Continue readingThe Liquid Logic Big Wheel belongs to the same family as the Liquid Logic Scooter.
I found this in the archives! I think an updated version is called for.
I have tried to gather together a number of good outfitting examples. They are intended to be a source of ideas or possible options that you may want to consider for your kayak. The best way to look at the information is as a pick & mix. Experiment and take the elements that work best for you and discard the rest.
Getting the outfitting of your boat correct may happen with the first go but more than likely will require both time and patience.
Is there a replacement coming soon?
