10 Best GoPro Accessories

Over the last few weeks I have been looking at the wide range of accessories that I own for use with the GoPro. I have whittled the list down to the 10 best GoPro accessories that I would buy again if I was starting out from scratch.

I have not included any items that are no longer widely available, such as the MountStar mount.

Unsponsored Q&A Series – Gerd Serrasolses

Gerd is the older half of the famous paddling Serrasolses brothers. Hitting big whitewater, competing in world class competitions (and winning) and crafting superb GoPro edits is where Gerd spends most of his time. If a country has quality whitewater the chances are that Gerd has already been there or is planning an expedition to seek out first descents.

I’ve been following Gerd’s travels and adventures for some time and am super stoked that Gerd agreed to take part in the Unsponsored Q&A series, especially as he was in training for the Sickline event (which he won).

Unsponsored Q&A Series - Gerd Serrasolses

How did you first get into kayaking? Who introduced you to the sport?

One day I was biking along our local river, the Ter and saw some people paddling around. I got curious and with some persuasion from my mum I decided to join the local kayak club, the Salt-Ter. It all started really slow with only a couple hours a week on Saturday morning, but as soon as I could go to the river by myself riding my bike and pulling my playboat on a little trailer I started to get obsessed about kayaking until it became my life.

My Favorite GoPro Accessories For Travel

Getting the right number and type of GoPro accessories will help you to shoot some great footage for that holiday edit. But you need it to be fairly compact, usable and add value to the camera. Carrying loads of gear ‘just in case’ is counter productive as you’ll probably not even use it anyway. It’s all about keeping it simple.

All of these suggestions will happily work with the entire GoPro range including the Hero 4 and Hero 4 Session.

Lowe Pro Dashpoint AVC:

Firstly if the main items of my gear don’t fit in a Lowe Pro Dashpoint AVC it isn’t going. The case is designed for one camera but will happily take two GoPros.

GoPro Tether

Losing a GoPro because the sticky mount has failed is not a nice experience. I have been there. Using a leash or tethering system has become a key part of using a GoPro, especially when attached to a kayak, paddle or helmet. Since the release of the Blackout housing and GoPro Hero 4 the usual place to add a leash to tether the camera has gone.

GoPro have removed access to the metal bar that acts as part of the hinge, this was used by many to attach a thin piece of cord although some cases have failed due to this. There are two alternatives to using the hinge that depend upon the thumbscrew on the QR mount.

GoPro Hero – Review

Recently I acquired one of Go Pro’s new additions to their line-up, the Go Pro Hero. Breaking the trend of recent years of developing top of the range action cameras, Go Pro rather quietly announced that they were bringing this little camera as a new budget option for those of us who don’t want to pay up for the new Hero 4. And at £99, I’m really impressed with it!

Follow some Quebec Connection boys as they shred down a sweet local run; the Aux Chiens river. Nothing huge but it’s a skatepark for kayakers! Many smooth money class IVs.

Chelan Gorge 2014 – Substantial TV

Screen Shot 2014-09-27 at 19.35.48

The Chelan River is located in Northern Washington flowing off the east side of the Cascade range. The river cuts through a short steep dessert canyon before entering the Columbia River. American Whitewater arranged a recreational release for one weekend, once a year. For that weekend in late September The Chelan Gorge holds the perfect flow of 400 cfs and contains 5-6 class five drops back to back. Enjoy a taste of what we got to experience up there this year.
