Soul Waterman, the Canadian based company founded by Olympic kayaker Corran Addison, is announcing the first ever custom kayak design program the industry has ever seen.
“We’re not talking about adding or cutting the seam a little to adjust volume,” stated Corran. “This is a real bone fide custom designed kayak to each individuals needs.”
Soul Waterman have two tandem kayak designs in their collection for 2017. The first is the Dos Amigos, Soul’s take on the classic Topolino Duo. The second is the Terrible Two, which has been designed to get kids out on the water a little more easily.

Corran Addison has recently released some images of the new power seat fitted within the also new Soul composite Super Sic playboat.
The power seat that was fitted to Riot kayaks back in the day (when Riot were good) was quite simply one of the best seats out there. If this new one is even half as good, it will be a winner.
For the last few years the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that many of my own personal boats have been orange.
This started with Liquidlogic Vision, followed by the Liquidlogic Squirrel and the Spade Kayaks Ace of Spades. In addition to this I have paddled orange boats back to back with other colours from all major manufacturers.
If you had noticed you may have thought that there is simply just an orange thing going on, but I can assure you that this is not the case. You may have also noticed that many of Corran Addison’s new Soul Waterman designs are only available in either yellow or orange.
You may be sat there right now nodding your head in agreement. If you look at all of the major kayak and canoe manufacturers you will see that orange kayaks have featured within all of their recent ranges. Look at some of the new manufacturers that have sprung up over the last few years – Titan, Silver Birch and Soul Waterman to name just a few. All of their new designs have been available in orange, they could have chosen just about any colour for their line ups. All of this has not occurred accidentally.
We’ve been following the develops at Soul Waterman HQ for sometime. We love what Corran is doing over there and it’s great to see the line of boats that are being produced.
We shared some graphics showing what the outfitting would/could look like a few months back. The outfitting is now a reality and is being fitted to the new production line of kayaks. I’d be interested in knowing peoples thoughts on this.
We’ve been following the development of the whitewater line of Soul Waterman kayaks since Corran Addison first announced them.
The new boats are almost ready for full production. As we are getting close to the release we are starting to see examples of what the actual outfitting will be like. Corran has taken some recent images of the new Soul Waterman outfitting and we are pretty impressed at Unsponsored HQ.
Searching for the Gee spot is a video that had a great influence on my freestyle paddling and encouraged me to spend lots of time getting the moves right on flatwater before progressing on to the moving stuff. Corran Addison has kindly given persmisson for Searching For The Gee Spot to be shared online via Unsponsored. Enjoy.
The quality of the video is a little bit sketchy but it is exactly the same as the VHS tape that I have.
Another old school classic hot on the heels of Operation Zulu. With the permission of Corran Addison I have converted it to MP4 and put it online.
Corran Addison, Nico Chasing, Steve Fisher and Dan Campbell take starring roles in this short but action packed video that is watchable time and time again. The editing is quite jumpy, fast – sort of MTV style, but the boating is good.
Without doubt the video of the 1990’s, Operation Zulu brought Corran and the rest of the Riot Kayak squad to our screens. Until now only available on VHS if you could find it. Thankfully with a bit of help I have sourced an original VHS copy and with the permission of Corran Addison have converted it to MP4 and put it online.
30-40 minutes of big water, aerials move, cartwheels, splitwheels, freewheels. At the time they were the most radical moves out there. The editing is slick and the soundtrack includes Real Big Fish, and The Bloodhound Gang. Old school boats are plenty – Savage Fury, Hammer, Glide (protos), 007… See what the pros can do.
Enjoy.
Corran has recently updated the Soul Waterman outfitting page to give a complete breakdown of the new outfitting system that will be used within its kayaks.
Corran has released details of the new Booty Call kayak.
It looks like a nice clean design. I spoke to Corran for some time at Paddle Expo about how he creates his designs. I’m saving the detail for its own post, however it seems to be working.
