Which SD Card For My Action Camera?

Updated: 20/10/2021

One of the biggest areas that is overlooked when getting a video/camera setup for trips out is the speed of the your SD or Micro SD card. Now this doesn’t matter if your camera is a GoPro, Contour, Garmin, Sony , Nikon or whatever because without a good memory card you may struggle to capture the video footage you want.

Which SD Card For My Action Camera?

The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for all SD cards, including both full and micro sized versions. Speed Class is a minimum speed based on a worst case scenario test and represents the minimum transfer rate of data that the card is capable of.

Keeping Warm

Staying both warm and dry makes any kayaking adventure that much more pleasant. I’ve been kayaking for over 25 years now and am amazed how much the kit has moved on during that time. Way back then getting soaked to the bone was pretty much a standard feature of paddling even if you didn’t swim. Even though staying dry is much easier and therefore makes keeping warm itself so much easier it’s important to get your insulation layers right.

I tend not to feel the cold as most folk but I still pick my insulation layers really carefully to make sure that I not only stay nice and warm but that I do not over heat. I personally find overheating way worse than being too cold.

Zet Director – Review

Over the last year or so I have been making my way through all of the new creek boats on the market. This has included paddling the LL Stomper, Pyranha Nano, Wavesport Recon 83, Wavesport Recon 93, Dagger Mamba, Zet Raptor, and now the Zet Director.

Zet are based in the Czech Republic and are a technical and design collaboration of the production engineer/kayak producer Zelezny, extreme kayaker Honza Lasko and the Czech whitewater slalom paddler Viktor Legat. I have paddled the Raptor extensively over the last year and was really interested to see how the larger Director would perform.

Living The Best Day Ever

I was contacted by Emily Hatfield on behalf of The Hendri Coetzee Trust to help let folk know about “Living The Best Day Ever”.

book

Dear Phil,

I am writing to you on behalf of The Hendri Coetzee Trust. I am not sure of knew Hendri or have heard of his story but he was the kayaker killed by a croc in the Congo in December 2010. We have just finished finalising his autobiography for him in his honour and we are now looking for channels to promote it and market it to the whitewater community. A friend of mine Thom Brown recommended approaching you.

The book is on sale via livingthebestdayever.com and is the perfect present for any paddler or non paddler for christmas. Please would you help us by posting something on your blog, Facebook page, twitter, anywhere you feel may get viewed.

Emily Hatfield

This is the true story of the greatest African explorer you have never heard of. Equipped with a core philosophy and a lot of luck, Hendri Coetzee embarks on a series of increasingly outrageous adventures in search of the best day ever.

Through these harrowing and often hilarious experiences he is subjected to grueling challenges in the most unique and compelling classroom on planet Earth: the rivers and jungles of Africa.

I agree, after reading about Hendri on the net I have ordered my copy of the Living The Best Day Ever.

Surprise, Surprise – GoPro Hero 3 Plus Black Edition

Although the GoPro Hero 3 plus black edition system excels at recoding video footage it can also take some pretty good still shots. I often like to set the GoPro Hero 3 plus black edition to take still images every 30 seconds to see what it comes out with.

Now and again my GoPro really surprises me. The shot above was taken using standard settings in low light. I quite like it!

The GoPro was set up on the bow of a Wavesport Recon using a standard sticky mount. A tether was used to keep the GoPro Hero 3 plus black edition safe in the event the mount failed. The camera was set up facing the paddler.
