Green River In A Sea Kayak

So the Green race is Saturday at high noon. P & H, Pyranha’s sea kayak line made a shit running sea kayak this year called the Hammer. The Hammer is surely not the ideal kayak to race the Green in, but it’s all I got and I thought it would be cool to sea how it would handle.

I think I will race this stout, but I’m just trying to survive out there. Good luck to all racers and thanks much to Keith Sprinkle for helping me with some lines on the river today. This video is just GoPro by the way. Cheers

Sandiline Extreme Drysuit – First Look

Sandiline are a Slovenian based company who specialise in high quality watersports kit including a huge range of dry kit. Sandiline kit has been available in the UK for a number of years via importers Squarerock. I’ve been interested in the Sandiline range for some time and this new Extreme DrySuit looks like it could be a winner.

This particular suit has been picked up by SJ from North Shore Watersports. SJ will be reporting back on how well it performs over the course of the next few months. I’m also trying to source one in my size for review.

Features:

Years of experience in the production of kayak gear and sailing drysuits led us to develop what is considered to be one of the best & most beautiful kayak Drysuits on the market. Thanks to the newest Toyota 4 layer fabric technology our drysuit will keep you dry & warm in the most demanding conditions. Latex wrists and neck gaskets underneath very stretchable Ulstraspan neoprene gaskets ensures that no water enters from the dry suit cavities. The high performance cut combined with the very flexible TiZip Masterseal dry zippers let you move so freely you will forget that you are wearing a kayak DrySuit. Flexible Melco reinforcments on knees, seat, elbows and shoulders makes the Drysuit tear resistant and more durable with minimal impact to the suit’s flexibility. Continue reading

Palm Impact Spraydeck – Review

I’ve been using Palm’s Impact spraydeck for a few months now and am ready to feedback on its performance to date. Thanks to Palm Equipment and Northshore Watersports (for piggy backing delivery) I have a Palm Impact that replaces the Extreme as Palm’s top end neoprene bungee deck. First impressions are good. The deck looks and feels solid. It is well made and the black/lime colour scheme is bang on trend!

On the outside there is a protective 4mm Armortex reinforcement to increase the robustness of the deck. This should make the Impact of interest to those who put their decks through a rough time.

Astral Rassler – First Look

I’ve been using my Five Ten Water Tennies for the last year + and really like them but also have a set of Astral Brewers which are great in my play boat. The Brewers dry much faster that the Water Tennies but don’t have the same level of protection or stiffness as the Water Tennies. The Rassler takes the Brewer and beefs it up for tougher walk ins/outs.

Hells Kitchen 13

Nothing at all to do with Gordon Ramsey.

Hells Kitchen 13′ from Charge Productions on Vimeo.

Luckily for us, I have an addiction to checking the river gauges, here in California. Therefore, I caught early wind of an unscheduled Highland Creek release. We aren’t keen for Highland again, but Hell’s Kitchen, which is downstream, is definitely worth the effort. Thomas Moore, Nick Murphy, and myself lead the charge on a nice cool fall day. Didn’t film much, but I did capture Nick and Thomas running one stout in there. Enjoy the flick!

GoPro Hero 3 Plus Battery Performance

One of the biggest changes with the Hero3+ is a more powerful battery and some inner tweaks that allow the camera to run for longer. GoPro reckon that the Hero3+ has
a 30% longer battery life compared to HERO3: Black Edition with its new battery rated at 1180mAH, 3.7V, 4366mWh.

Battery Life

The chart below indicates the approximate continuous recording time (hr:min) you can expect when shooting in various video modes using a fully-charged battery. So far, in pretty mild conditions and using a 16GB Samsung Micro SD Card I have found the findings below to be fairly accurate.

The data below looks at GoPro Hero 3 Plus battery performance.

There Is No Rushing A River

There is no rushing a river from Erik Garmo on Vimeo.

There is no rushing a river. When you go there, you go at the pace of the water and that pace ties you into a flow that is older than life on this planet. Acceptance of that pace, even for a day, changes us, reminds us of other rhythms beyond the sound of our own heartbeats. — Jeff Rennicke, River Days: Travels on Western Rivers

Moose Fest is always rowdy. Why was this one more rowdy than all other Moose Fest’s? From my experience it was the King of New York and all the god damn zombie’s. Enjoy demshitz.
