A few familiar faces in this edit from Kiwi creations. How many of the paddlers can you identify?
The Garry Boater-X is in its 3rd year, held on the dam-release River Garry near Fort Augustus and organised by Kevin Barclay and Daryn Hubbucks in association with the SCA, Pillow Rock and Go Kayaking Scotland. This year, the competition was attended by 41 men, 18 ladies and many more spectators. Here’s a little write-up from my first experience of boater-x.
The Garry Boater-X 2015 was a truly well-organised event. A friendly host of mainly Scottish paddlers were welcoming on arrival at the river and despite knowing very few other people on arrival, by the time the last finals were held, it seemed that everyone knew everyone despite some fierce rivalries and intense competition!
A superb side by side look at the top 4 runs at this year’s North Fork Championship IV Elite Division. A great use of the GoPro suite of cameras.

A creek race where you race in teams of two, provide your own safety cover and the run includes a tricky portage. Sounds like the Robe Race.
Elliott Davidson has put together this great edit of this years U23 Canoe Slalom World Championships in Brazil.
Spring time means you get to find out how bad your wrist and neck gaskets have degraded over the winter.
Spring time also means Robe Race and for 2015 the Xavier Engle Memorial Robe Race.
There were murmurs that the race might be shifted by a weekend, as there was no rain in the forecast the week leading up to the race. But level bumped up to just below 5.2 feet and by Friday afternoon we knew how we were going to be spending our Saturday; racing Robe Canyon and praying not to take home the Gnome!
It’s an easy template for a race: paddle as hard as you can for roughly 3.5 miles and crush around 40 rapids with as little carnage as you can manage. Then, just for shits giggles, throw a hideous portage in the middle of the course to see just how flexible those ankles really are…
Here is my entry for the 2015 video contest at Talulah Fest. Blessed to be able to live such a fun lifestyle, kayaking is the best! Huge thanks to anyone I’ve paddled with this year or anyone who has helped me along the way. Keep charging and having a good time out there!
