Beater Tuesday – an after work smash and grab at Aysgarth Falls, with a little added excitement….
Sam Ellis, Martyn Butler, Simon Jackson (UK boaters) and US friends take on Tumwater Canyon just outside of Leavenworth, WA USA.
The Middle Palguin class V waterfall near Pucon Chile was arguably one of the most cherished cascade features in the kayaking world. During 2014 heavy flooding milled porous basalt below the cascade formerly known as Stout 10. Tons of bedrock literally collapsed out from under Stout 10 just above the kayaker destination Middle Palguin 70 footer. Now, kayakers consistently ask, “What’s at the bottom?” “Can you send a probe kayak?” “Is it runnable?” A little known study abroad program for kayakers decided to kayak probe the cave siphon drop and document the mission for a video production course.
A great edit from friend of Unsponsored, Mark Mulrain. Mark takes a run down the Coe Gorge – a classic Scottish run.
Andy Butler takes a P&H Hammer On The Mawddach. The P&H Hammer is a 13ft sea kayak. Could it also be a great river runner or creeker?
In the summer of 2014, team Substantial found refuge in the best coast of the USA, and Canada, The WEST Coast. A spontaneous trip to California landed us at Fantasy Falls, arguably the best overnighter in the good ol US of A. Then later in the summer we spent a few days around Revelstoke, BC tapping the glacier fresh whitewaters, and of course Kokanees. The summer ended with the almighty Grand Canyon of the Stikine where the crew found substantial flows, and simpler times. Enjoy!
I first became inspired to enter the outdoor industry on a trip to Val Sesia with Gene17 when I was working for a bank, feeling pretty lost in life and confused by what my future held.
An (almost certainly) off the cuff comment from one of our coaches at the time saw me on an intensive outdoor instructor training course less than a year later, and I haven’t looked back since.
Each year Gene17 invite applications to come and join them on a week of intensive training aimed at those wishing to improve, or enter high end whitewater guiding. This year Me, Bastien and Matt were all lucky enough to be offered a place, along with another six paddlers from the UK and Europe.
This is the April Segment from the Movie CALI RUSH. Hard core white water Kayakers get to see parts of California’s unique backcountry that others will never see.
