River Tees – Teesside WW Course (Pre Changes)

Found this is the archives and thought it may be of interest to some.

Inlet gate – Easy Rider

Unsponsored-teesside

A smooth surfaced green wave that can be very easy or very hard to catch depending on the rate of flow down the course. Given the correct kayak and skill you can surf all day forward/backwards, flat spin and on a good day side surf. If you do miss getting on to Easy Rider you could always pretend you were aiming for one of the smaller waves on the following wave train. It must be noted that if you know you won’t be able to catch the wave that a wave wheel is possible, but it is shallow! Continue reading

The North Tyne

The North Tyne has to be one of the classic ww runs in the North East of England. The water is clean, access is pretty good and you can get down in all but the very lowest of levels. The get in is at the small village of Chollerford just a few miles North of Hexam itself. Parking can be found in a large lay by on the west side of the bridge (just over the roundabout). It’s then a short walk back over to the east side of the bridge and path down to the river.

The Bitches Tidal Rapids

Screen Shot 2013-08-27 at 19.53.35

The Bitches is a tidal race in South Wales and is formed by a volcanic reef protruding from the sea bed. When the tide starts to rise water is held back behind the reef and eventually flows over and around it causing a set of rapids about 700 meters wide. This short film depicts a week spent at the rapid by 8 junior kayakers with Watermark Experiences.

On my way out to the PNW I had the opportunity to stop and run the infamous North Fork of the Payette in Banks, Idaho with locals Michael Thurmond and James Byrd. Quick little edit of a stellar day of classic Idaho whitewater!

A Summer Stout 720

Another great video from my friend Sam Ellis. Charging hard in God’s Own County.

Screen Shot 2013-08-08 at 22.04.57

So the rains finally came!! After work Monday night got a run on Aysgill Force and a swollen Swale. Footage was too dark for rest of the Swale but I assure there weren’t any other place I would of rather been.

Enjoy

Cheers
