West Cherry Creek: California

A great edit from Nick Troutman has just dropped – West Cherry Creek: California.

West Cherry Creek: California

This summer Dane Jackson and I met up in California to run down the famous West Cherry Creek. This was fun time down the run and I was absolutely blown away with the gorgeous scenery and giant granite slides and rapids. It was truly incredible and I can’t wait to get back in there. Check out some of our little 2-day adventure in the California wilderness.

High Water Middle Kings

Dane Jackson takes a run down Middle Kings.

High Water Middle Kings
High Water Middle Kings

With less than a week left in California, the Middle Fork of the Kings was looking like it just wasn’t going to drop to low enough levels to be able to commit before I left. But somehow it managed to drop just barely into it’s window of runnable, although high, right in time. Ben Coleman, Carson Lindsay, and myself decided to head in with some of the juicier flows than most people would start hiking for.

Kaweah

Kaweah
Kaweah

The Panther section of the Kaweah, located just upstream of the Hospital Rock section is one of the best day runs in Cali. It’s about a 3 mile hike up but then once you are on the water it’s a few hours of sick boulder gardens, and tons of boofs and slides. By far one of my favorite day runs out there, and I highly recommend getting it if you ever have the chance!

SUP Silver Creek California

Fletcher Burton stand up paddling (SUP) South Silver Creek in California. A superb achievement. This SUP stuff has mileage.

image

Video of Fletcher Burton’s epic stand up paddling (SUP) descent of South Silver Creek’s 600 foot per mile section. South Silver has always allured whitewater enthusiasts to it’s granite paradise of waterfalls and slides. It was no surprise to us when Fletcher called and wanted to try it’s first SUP descent. The sport of SUP has migrated inland and continues to grow with new vertical descents. Determined to take these “limits” to an entirely whole new level, Fletcher charged it and attempted every drop at least twice (even with a busted leg after Skyscraper).

West Coast Best Coast

West Coast Best Coast

In the summer of 2014, team Substantial found refuge in the best coast of the USA, and Canada, The WEST Coast. A spontaneous trip to California landed us at Fantasy Falls, arguably the best overnighter in the good ol US of A. Then later in the summer we spent a few days around Revelstoke, BC tapping the glacier fresh whitewaters, and of course Kokanees. The summer ended with the almighty Grand Canyon of the Stikine where the crew found substantial flows, and simpler times. Enjoy!
