Over the last month or so I have had around 30 emails asking if I could do I little comparison between these boats.
Having paddled the Liquid Logic Stomper, Wavesport Recon, Dagger Mamba and Jackson Karma over recent months I thought it would be quite good to gather a few statistics and thoughts in one place.
Zet are relatively new to the UK market but have gathered a loyal band of supporters. The Zet Raptor in particular has been getting quite a lot of attention since it was released.
Zet are based in the Czech Republic and are a technical and design collaboration of the production engineer/kayak producer Zelezny, extreme kayaker Honza Lasko and the Czech whitewater slalom paddler Viktor Legat.

Today I spend a few hours in the new Jackson Karma. Now today was quite unusual as once I was in the Karma and on the water I took an instant dislike to it!

The large Karma was supplied by Northshore Watersports here in the UK. On picking up the boat I noticed it was pretty light. This was a surprise given the fact that it looks really really big. I was expecting something more akin to the Dagger Mamba and Wavesport Recon but the Karma was noticeably lighter. Continue reading
The PeakUK Bull bag is available in 25, 20 and 15 metre varieties. I had a chance to check out and throw the the 25 and 15 metre models.
The new Jackson Karma are beginning to find there way to kayak stores. North Shore Watersports have both a large in Fire & Ice (Red/Yellow/White) and a Medium in Limon (Green/Yellow).

The Mamba from Dagger has been around since 2005 and has become a firm favourite with paddlers at all levels. Over the last couple of years Dagger’s designers and test paddlers have been working on making the Mamba even better, the result has been some major design changes that have brought the Mamba bang up to date. In many senses the 2013 Mamba is a completely new boat.
The Dominatrix is Riot’s scaled down Trickster. The Dominatrix is both shorter and has less volume than its larger sibling. This puts the Dominatrix somewhere between the Riot Disco and Trickster.
The Domiatrix is available in three sizes 41, 44, and 47.

Country – Wales and Nepal
I have a few sets of gear at the moment, I use a Mamba in Wales and a Phat, Everest or Remix in Nepal. I have a Gus in India and an RPM. I use a Jimi Styx on soul days, and use Lightning Gradients on expeditions (200). I wear a Sweet Wanderer on creeks and a Strutter in the sun/cruise days. Sweet drytop/pants and base layers. Chaco footwear, IR pogies in the cold. Snap Dragon/Playboater/IR/Palm skirt depending on boat. Pfd, I have a Langer AKC shape in Nepal, Nookie in UK, Peak in UAE and a Stolquist in India. I also have a Hydraulics. As for safety kit. I always carry 2 throw bags, a waist mounted Salamander or NRS Guide along with a longer line in my boat. All my lines are stripped and have Krabs and prussiks as part of the system held within.
I have taken some time before writing this post as I wanted the new boat syndrome to subside before putting my thoughts onto the site.
Putting my cards on the table I prefer the Recon. The reasons why follow below.
It’s fair to say that the Stomper and Recon sit firmly within the same genre and will naturally be compared and pondered over by prospective new owners. The LCD BacPac is designed to give extra functionality to the GoPro series of cameras. This includes the Black, Silver and White 3 series cameras and the Hero and Hero 2 cameras (but without the touch screen functionality).
The LCD BacPac is a small unit that clips onto the back of a camera and is powered from the camera itself. It allows you to edit the cameras settings, frame your shots and replay video.
You don’t see very many Fluid kayaks here in the UK. Fluid Kayaks – The company is headed by Celliers Kruger, one of South Africa’s most accomplished whitewater paddlers.
The Flirt is our tried and tested playboat that continues to deliver great playboating performance while being a great little riverrunner at the same time.
The Flirt features a large planing hull with a bit of kick-rocker at the bow and stern. It is very loose and bounces on command. Aerial moves come naturally, and the full-length carving rails with aggressive cut-aways at the stern make for an exciting ride on green waves.
The outfitting on the Flirt could be considered as basic. The ratchet backrest is comfortable and is adjusted via some ratchets located on the base of the seat. The seat itself is comfortable and is fairly easy to outfit out with some foam and glue or by using the strap in hip pads.
