Respect The Runout

Astral reminds us why it’s important to always respect the runout after finishing a big run. Check out Gareth Tate’s run in with the Flume after a stellar “no swim” trip down Dinkey Creek in California.

The Pyranha Burn has been a huge success here in the UK and around the world. For 2014 Pyranha have made the Burn longer, thinner and faster. Essentially the best features of the Mk I and Mk II Burn have been combined to create the new Burn.

The third generation Burn is the latest in Pyranha’s long line of cutting edge river runners. Paddlers have come to rely on the Burn’s combination of playful hull, precise edges and forgiving deck profile for everything from the beginnings of whitewater to Class V creeks. Continue reading

The Nantahala World Kayak Pro-Am

The Nantahala World Kayak Pro-am from Jez Jez on Vimeo.

The pro am is a gathering of professional athletes and amature kayakers raising money for the First Descents Charity at the Nantahala river NC.

Each pro paddler is paired with two amateurs, forming a team of three. These teams compete in a beginner-friendly freestyle event, using the World Kayak point system developed for the Hometown Throwdowns. At the end, the winning team gets bragging rights till next year, and everyone has a chance to win some great raffle prizes. This event is about bringing the boating community together for a great cause and lots of fun.

It’s all about fun and a good cause. Last year, World Kayak raised over $3,000 for First Descents, a non-profit that offers young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle and surf beyond their diagnosis, defy their cancer, reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same.

The Bitches Tidal Rapids

Screen Shot 2013-08-27 at 19.53.35

The Bitches is a tidal race in South Wales and is formed by a volcanic reef protruding from the sea bed. When the tide starts to rise water is held back behind the reef and eventually flows over and around it causing a set of rapids about 700 meters wide. This short film depicts a week spent at the rapid by 8 junior kayakers with Watermark Experiences.

The Bus: A Journey Up North

The Bus: A Journey Up North, is a story of some good friends doing what they do best; having fun, adventuring, and sending it on mountain bikes and kayaks. With the idea to run the bus to be more economical as well as environmentally friendly, the friends converted the school bus to run off waste vegetable oil. The trip turns out to be nothing short of the trip of a lifetime.
