Purchased from WWTCC this week, we have a Palm Equipment Cobra sling in for review.

Space saving compared to the other two Palm Equipment tapes and super strong the Cobra looks like a great bit of kit to have in your PFD rescue gear. Although it looks like a dyneema climbing sling the Cobra should not be used for climbing. I suspect that this is due to the dynamic forces that kit endures during a climbing fall.

Palm Equipment Cobra Sling – First Look

The Cobra is made from 10mm UHMWPE webbing. Both Dyneema and Spectra slings are types of UHMWPE. UHMWPE or ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene is used to weave some of the strongest webbing. This allows for stronger, lighter, and thinner webbing made compare to those made from traditional fibres. The 4m Cobra weighs in at around y 67g.

UHMWPE webbing is popular for applications requiring high strength and low stretch, and where corrosion is possible or expected. Perfect for kayaking and canoeing.

The Cobra has 10 kN static breaking strength with sewn karabiner loops at both ends. Unlike the Snake Sling these end loops are large enough for one end to be threaded through one another to create a large loop.

Retailing at £22 here in the UK the Cobra comes in at roughly the same price as a Dyneema climbing sling.
